The Hollywood Reporter 6th Annual Nominees Night Red Carpet Roundup

Along with Greta Gerwig, many more stars were at The Hollywood Reporter 6th Annual Nominees Night on Monday (February 5) in Beverly Hills, California.

Kelly Marie Tran: When I saw this Georges Chakra Fall 2017 Couture confection on the runway, it was like a fashion fantasy. While I appreciate the lining, I do think it lost a bit of its lightness and magic as a result. I also was missing the embellished bodice detailing.

Timothee Chalamet: Intentionally or not, the young actor’s Gucci Resort 2018 forest-green suit was the perfect match with the thematic colour of the evening. It was also the perfect reflection of his casually refined style with the tailoring and T-shirt combo.

Betty Gabriel: Going completely girly, Betty donned a retro-inspired Sachin & Babi Spring 2018 frock that reminded me of a play on a poodle skirt—with embellished lips to replace the pups. I do think it would have been more successful had it been shortened to tea length.

Allison Janney: Lately, the actress has been wearing long gowns, but here she opted for the menswear trend in a Dsquared2 double-breasted suit and matching Tyler Ellis clutch. The diamond necklace was no doubt added to increase the glam quotient of the more serious look.

Bria Vinaite: This Moschino high-low dress may have seemed a bit dated, but the half-up, half-down hair sealed the deal. A sleek hairstyle for her zippy pink locks would have elevated the ensemble. Giuseppe Zanotti sandals completed the look.

Laurie Metcalf: This Yanina Fall 2016 Couture emerald-green dress was so intriguing on Laurie. I love how she’s not afraid to indulge in bold motifs like this metallic, exploded teardrop effect, artfully contrasted by the sophisticated silhouette of the frock.

Laurie, Kelly, and Betty don’t have perfect looks but they all have interesting details.

Timothee – well done, nothing too much.

Timothee wins for me for another effortlessly cool and understated look. For someone so young and who doesn’t work with a stylist, he has absolutely nailed what works for him and the silhouette that best suits his frame.

He wore the same suit to the Academy Awards Nominees luncheon earlier that day with a white shirt. I prefer the suit with the shirt but the above look is still pretty impressive.

A different lighter in weight lining would have worked wonders for Kelly Marie’s dress. I have sheer overload but this lining is awful.
Timothy’s look, other than the nice color, is whatever (I don’t get the love for his style).
Betty’s dress is too long and the fit is off in the bodice.
Allison looks okay — the jacket needs to be a bit more fitted.
Bria just looks meh — the tattoos and her hair are doing anything for her dated dress so she ends up looking a bit of a mess.
Laurie’s dress is interesting but it does nothing for her and she is returning the favor by doing nothing for it.
