2018 BAFTA Awards Red Carpet Roundup

Black gowns dominated the 2018 BAFTAs on Sunday (February 18) at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England, but the red carpet was by no means boring with celebrities showing their support for the Time’s Up movement in a wide array of striking looks.

Letitia Wright: Showing a darker side of Gucci, the ‘Black Panther’ actress, who was one of the presenters on the night, looks charming in a belted dress. The bug-like embroidery perks up the black velvet base. Some have remarked how the brands looks sometimes suffer from too many details, but this one has the balance right.

Sally Hawkins: The Best Actress in a Leading Role nominee for ‘The Shape of Water’, shone in a Ralph & Russo gown. This is a more sensual look for her with the slashes in the bodice revealing a coquettish hint of skin. I wish she played into the theme more with romantic wavy hair.

Anya Taylor-Joy: Last year’s Rising Star Award nominee embraced the sexy glamour of Dolce & Gabbana in a black lace dress and golden crown. I can already hear the chants of people wishing the skirt was lined, and I must agree.

Greta Gerwig In Gucci – ‘Isle of Dogs’ Berlinale International Film Festival Photocall

Greta Gerwig continues to captivate on the red carpet as she attended the ‘Isle of Dogs’ Berlinale International Film Festival Photocall on Thursday (February 15) in Berlin, Germany, where she joined Tilda Swinton.

Prior to her whimsical Valentino outing at the opening ceremony of the festival, the ‘Lady Bird’ director wore a patterned Gucci shirtdress for day.

There has been no shortage of Gucci on the red carpet, but I found this a refreshing choice not least for the white colour palette but because of its more casual nature.

It exudes polish and elegance from the classic silhouette, but the way the sophisticated style has been subverted with the designer print is modern and in keeping with her flair for the romantic and whimsical.

The white pumps with colourful straps lent a coordinated finish.

Anya Taylor-Joy In Gucci – Newport Beach Film Festival Annual UK Honours

Anya Taylor-Joy made a dramatic statement at the Newport Beach Film Festival Annual UK Honours on Thursday (February 15) in London, England.

The actress ensured all eyes were on her in a sweeping Gucci Resort 2018 dress.

Given the modifications, I wouldn’t be surprised if some mistake the new look for Chanel.

She opted for the black and white above-the-ankle style dress over the billowing pink and purple maxi dress we saw on the runway.

It still presents a whimsical charm with the black bows while the full cape sleeves provide drama.

It was a successful turn, but I am still intrigued to see how she would have carried off the original.  The actress doesn’t shy away from bold gowns, and she has worn Gucci to much success in the past.

Which version do you prefer?

ALINKA jewels completed her look.

Lupita Nyong’o In Cushnie et Ochs, Gucci & Dolce & Gabbana – ‘Black Panther’ New York Promo Tour

As the ‘Black Panther’ promo tour starts to wind down, Lupita Nyong’o took to the red carpet on three occasions this week.

Black Panther Welcome To Wakanda New York Fashion Week Showcase: After a heavy dose of metallics in Seoul and London, Lupita was back to her colourful best in Cushnie et Ochs. I like the bold hue of her two-piece Pre-Fall 2018 look and the African-inspired styling, but I’m gonna struggle to forgive the length of those trousers.

‘Black Panther’ London Premiere Menswear Roundup

In addition to Florence Kasumba, Letitia Wright, Leona Lewis, Danai Gurira, and Lupita Nyong’o, a trio of handsome men were also in attendance at the ‘Black Panther’ London premiere on Thursday (February 8).

Chadwick Boseman: My fashion crush only grows stronger. The actor cut an impossibly cool profile in this Givenchy Spring 2018 monochromatic ensemble, the textured layers of which showed such a command of style. I like the slightly wild side of the long, brush-stroked jacket, which cemented the power status of the look.

Michael B. Jordan: Also in a long jacket, Michael’s double-breasted CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC version was a bit more conservative on form, but had a unique sense of storied refinement as a result. Christian Louboutin ‘Samson’ boots rounded out the look.

Daniel Kaluuya: Not completely going for the same monochromatic theme as Chadwick and Michael, Daniel punched up his classic Gucci suit with a white dress shirt and embroidered tie with glossy Tod’s shoes to finish.

The Hollywood Reporter 6th Annual Nominees Night Red Carpet Roundup

Along with Greta Gerwig, many more stars were at The Hollywood Reporter 6th Annual Nominees Night on Monday (February 5) in Beverly Hills, California.

Kelly Marie Tran: When I saw this Georges Chakra Fall 2017 Couture confection on the runway, it was like a fashion fantasy. While I appreciate the lining, I do think it lost a bit of its lightness and magic as a result. I also was missing the embellished bodice detailing.

Timothee Chalamet: Intentionally or not, the young actor’s Gucci Resort 2018 forest-green suit was the perfect match with the thematic colour of the evening. It was also the perfect reflection of his casually refined style with the tailoring and T-shirt combo.

Betty Gabriel: Going completely girly, Betty donned a retro-inspired Sachin & Babi Spring 2018 frock that reminded me of a play on a poodle skirt—with embellished lips to replace the pups. I do think it would have been more successful had it been shortened to tea length.
