Sarah Jessica Parker’s Ballet Gala Look Couldn’t Be More SJP
The annual New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala took place on Thursday at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, and how do I know that? Because Sarah Jessica Parker was on the red carpet.

The event simply wouldn’t be the same without her. SJP conceived the Fall Fashion Gala, which launched in 2012, and remains one of its most recognisable supporters.
This year, Simone Rocha designed the costumes for Justin Peck’s world-premiere pas de deux, mirror/sky (landslide), so it felt only right that SJP would also wear a custom Simone Rocha look for the occasion.

Inspired by the Fall 2026 collection, the embroidered tulle Rosebud Unravelling Ribbon tutu dress – yes, of course there had to be something tutu-adjacent – was modified for SJP with sleeves, fewer ribbons and considerably less volume through the skirt.
I love seeing a runway dress reworked to suit the wearer, and this is a perfect example. The original is beautiful, but its scale belongs on the runway. SJP’s version keeps the romance of the embroidery and trailing ribbons while making the silhouette feel far more natural on her.

I know you’re screaming at the bag, and I am too, but at this point we have to make our peace with SJP and her red carpet bags. Looking at this laser-cut white leather Simone Rocha bag, perhaps we should just be thankful it wasn’t a crossbody.

The ribbon running through her long braided ponytail was a lovely continuation of the dress, while Mikimoto pearl drop earrings completed her look.

SJP at the New York City Ballet Gala wearing a ribbon-covered Simone Rocha dress with a ballet reference? It was always going to make sense.
