Tessa Thompson Wore Balenciaga To The ‘Is God Is’ New York Premiere

Tessa Thompson joined Janelle Monáe for the Is God Is New York premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Monday night, attending in her role as one of the film’s producers.

As intrigued as I am by her Balenciaga Fall 2026 look, had it not been for the one-sleeve top enriched with embellishment, this would have completely faded into the step-and-repeat. The drama is there, but it feels somewhat muted in this setting.

Looking to the runway gives a clearer sense of the intention. The styling, particularly the gloves, works on the runway, but here they feel less essential. Removing them for some of these photos might have allowed the asymmetry and detailing to come through more clearly.

That said, considering her role as a producer, this may have been a conscious choice. Rather than competing with the film’s leading stars, the look reads as more understated, allowing her to support the moment without stealing the spotlight.
