Emma Laird attended the BFI UK special screening this evening for her BBC series Mint in a look that feels less red carpet, more character study.

We’re used to seeing the British actress in directional Louis Vuitton runway looks, although she did give us a rare romantic moment for the Berlin Film Festival premiere back in February.

On this occasion, she wore a sharply structured black jacket with exaggerated puff sleeves, a prim white bow blouse, and a peplum hem that breaks into a soft, almost Victorian frill, paired with a lean, mid-calf skirt that mirrors the same delicate trim. It’s austere, and slightly uncanny, yet far from what we typically associate with Nicolas Ghesquière’s more futuristic, architectural take on Louis Vuitton.

This look feels like it’s been pulled from an archive: something historical, almost puritanical, yet filtered through Ghesquière’s cinematic lens. It’s costume-adjacent without tipping into costume, which sounds contradictory, but works.

It would be easy to assume there’s storytelling at play here, but Emma does gravitate towards pieces that feel slightly off-centre. She avoids the obvious, consistently presenting looks with a clear point of view.

What’s particularly compelling is how consistent that instinct is. While many ambassadors lean into brand signatures for recognisability, Emma uses Louis Vuitton as a tool for character-building. Her red carpet appearances feel less about traditional glamour and more about narrative – about mood, tone, and inhabiting something.

So yes, this look is unusual for Louis Vuitton, but it doesn’t feel accidental.

Le Damier de Louis Vuitton Fine Jewelry rings in yellow gold and diamonds completed her look.
