Anne Hathaway Wore Valentino Haute Couture To ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Tokyo Premiere
Following the start of The Devil Wears Prada 2 tour in Mexico City, Anne Hathaway’s next stop was Tokyo, where it had its first premiere, likely setting the tone for the rest of this press tour.

As expected, the actress wore a look from Valentino’s Spring 2026 Haute Couture collection. And I have to say, I’m not sold, as there are just too many competing ideas, and I don’t feel that it fits her particularly well.
It’s not a bad dress in isolation, as this is high-concept Haute Couture doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, provoke and photograph dramatically. But on Anne, I feel that it completely overwhelms her natural elegance.
This reads as very Alessandro Michele-era maximalism, more quirky-editorial than timeless red carpet, which is why my first thought was that it feels like a costume. Anne’s elegance usually comes from clean, elongated lines, but the exaggerated ruffled skirt overwhelms her frame, cuts her body into thirds, and shortens her.
With all that being said, I understand the thought process behind this. The colours are a nod to the original film’s iconic imagery – black and white for fashion editorial, with the red tying into the “devil”/Prada heel motif.
I wanted to love this, mostly because it was a bold choice for Anne, but I would have preferred this on someone with a much more fashion-forward approach – someone who thrives in high-drama silhouettes rather than Anne’s usual streamlined elegance, where the look would feel more aligned with the wearer.
And then we get to the Valentino Garavani Rockstud shoes. Honestly, this was the most jarring part of all. The studded finish pulls focus away from the dress and shifts the look into overt branding, rather than supporting the overall styling. But after watching the trailers, it kind of sets the tone for what I feel this film is going to be about: product placement.
Bvlgari High Jewelry Serpenti pair of earrings and Bvlgari Tubogas ring completed her look.
Stylist: Erin Walsh.
