The Men of the 2025 American Cinematheque Awards
The American Cinematheque hosted its annual ceremony on Thursday at The Beverly Hilton, honouring Michael B. Jordan — and if you’re wondering whether the honouree rose to the occasion sartorially, the answer is a very confident yes.
What I loved most about this menswear trio is that each brought a distinct personality, even while sticking to the black-tie memo. One went classic, one went directional, and one finally fixed the thing I’ve been begging him to address for years.

Classic Command
Michael B. Jordan collected his American Cinematheque Award dressed in another Louis Vuitton suit — this time wearing a black velvet shawl-lapel tuxedo. I would have tightened up the length of the trousers, but overall this was a classic look worthy of the occasion and the honour bestowed upon him.

Polka Dot Play
Mahershala Ali swiftly caught my attention wearing one of menswear’s current trend: polka dots. His Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann Fall 2025 jacquard jacket — punctuated with the frozen gardenia — leaned straight into that playful yet refined territory also loved by Alessandro Michele. But the most curious part of his look? The satin polka-dot jacquard trousers. Again, I would have preferred the hem a touch shorter. The softness of the fabric makes them veer slightly into lounge-pant terrain, yet somehow I’m sold. A leather tie and Tom Ford Dagger boots completed the look.

Tailoring Triumph
If you’ve been here long enough, you’ll know I’ve had an ongoing feud with Daniel Kaluuya’s trouser lengths. A saga. A battle. A test of patience. So imagine my joy — my relief — when he stepped onto this red carpet in perfectly tailored trousers. Clean line, correct break, nothing puddling. He wore an all-black suit with a tonal shirt and a single lapel pin, letting the silhouette do all the talking.

Class-wise, Michael wins.

Style and swagger-wise, Mahershala takes it.

But when it comes to cut and fit, Daniel walks away with the crown.
