Maybe it’s because I’ve been mourning the craftsmanship of McQueen lately. We didn’t quite get it with Aimee Lou Wood’s Emmy gown, but here? It’s everything I’ve been craving. The cutaway jacket, etched with gold embroidery, had that military precision the house has always executed so beautifully.
But then—because McQueen is never only about structure—the ivory oyster ruffles in silk georgette unfurled, instantly recalling the Spring 2003 ‘Irere’ collection, where the iconic Oyster dress first revealed how fabric could move like water, like breath—like something alive.
It’s the tension between the two worlds—tailoring that commands, ruffles that whisper—that makes this so powerful. Chris Lee has always leaned into androgynous dressing, but this look proves you don’t have to choose between strength and softness. She wore both.
The finishing touch was a simple black hat, almost cheeky in its understatement.
