Teyana Taylor has that rare magic where she can throw on something most people wouldn’t consider, and it instantly feels like it belongs to her. At the One Battle After Another LA premiere, she proved it yet again.

Wearing a Marc Jacobs Spring 2023 off-the-shoulder dress, the look was all about sculptural folds and twisted drapes that gave off a kind of armour-like presence. I know that some will be making “luxury leather car seat covers” comparisons—but honestly? She totally nailed this for me.

The gargantuan Marc Jacobs platform lace-up boots were unapologetically clunky, almost futuristic, but on her they worked as part of the story. If I had one tiny nitpick, it would be losing the leather opera gloves and bracelets, just to let the shape of the dress breathe a bit more.

Still, the end result was Gladiator goddess meets futuristic fashion warrior—a look that only Teyana could wear without the clothes wearing her. That’s the thing with her: it’s never about whether the outfit is “easy.” It’s about how she inhabits it. And last night, she owned every inch.
