Colman Domingo Wore Valentino To The 2025 Met Gala

If anyone was going to kick off the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style Met Gala theme with drama, reverence and serious fashion chops, it was going to be Colman Domingo—and oh did he deliver. Not only is he a co-chair, but he set the tone with a two-look moment that felt like a love letter to Black elegance, Black history and unapologetic self-expression.

His Valentino look started with a show-stopping blue pleated cape, drenched in rich gold embroidery that practically hummed with regality. He told red carpet reporters it was a tribute to his mother, whose favourite colour was blue, and you could feel the love in every detail. The André Leon Talley influence was unmistakable—Colman didn’t just wear this cape, he inhabited it, with a presence that was both theatrical and deeply personal.

And of course, there was a reveal. The second look from Valentino was pure Dandy 101: razor-sharp tailoring, intricate pattern play, and that mix of power and playfulness that defines true style. This wasn’t just a wardrobe change—it was a cultural thesis with a side of flair.

Colman understood the assignment? No. He led the class. The bar? Consider it raised, tailored, and monogrammed.

Boucheron jewelry completed his look.

Stylists: Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald.
