Saweetie hosted and performed at the 2021 MTV EMAs held at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna on Sunday (14 November) in Hungary.
I can’t say I have been the biggest fan of the rapper’s style, but when I discovered that she is now working with Wayman and Micah (who style Regina King, Tessa Thompson and Jennifer Hudson to name a few), I was confident that we were going to see an elevation in her style.
And right off the bat she impressed wearing this Givenchy Fall 2021 red carpet look.
Embroidered with shiny square sequins with gradient effect from black to beige and fringe in raffia and lurex, this is the intriguingly sexy version of her style I wanted to see.
This dress set the tone for someone who was the master of ceremonies at this event.
She can get into the more fun, daring, risqué and over-the-top looks during the show, but I loved this for her first look.
This Dolce & Gabbana custom made nude silk tulle two-piece gown reminded me of Ciara’s LaQuan Smith ensemble.
Saweetie was here for the drama however, with the dramatic train - entirely encrusted with gold Swarovski crystals - worn low around her hips.
The jewel in this crown was her turban encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
There were more dramatic headpieces to be had when the host wore a sultry Alina Anwar black bodycon gown.
This Bottega Veneta Spring 2021 white dress is a flat no from me on account of the modifications to the bodice.
This is such a cute dress, and I love the ’60s mood brought about by the styling. But the dress itself is no.
I should be thankful that she didn’t opt for the look book boots.
Her Alexandre Vauthier Resort 2022 teal ruffle v-neck mini dress featuring a crystal-embroidered neckline was very much upstaged by another elaborate headpiece inspired by Squid Game.
Saweetie loves peach coloured Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gowns as this is her second one from the Paris-based designer.
The colour is pretty, I adore her matching feathered Voyette ‘Sylve’ mules, but I’m missing the delicacy of the dress which I’m feeling from the look book.
Saweetie’s version looks a little bit stiff, like it was made from paper mache.
Natalie Mills Jewelry completed her look.
For her performance of her hit songs, ‘Best Friend,’ ‘Tap In,’ and ‘Out Out’ Saweetie changed into a silver catsuit with icy crystals which complemented her snowflake, winter wonderland set.
Saweetie wore a second Givenchy Fall 2021 look on the night which saw her tap into her love for sheer dresses, with a veil adding to the drama.
My favourite look from the stage outings was the brown and gold Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture dress she wore to accept her award for ‘Best New Artist’,
It’s giving me Thena and Daenerys Targaryen warrior Queen vibes.
However, I do wish she opted for a strong headpiece with this look.
