H&M has led the way in eco-conscious high street fashion, and today their latest Conscious Exclusive collection for A/W 20 launch proves how the trailblazers are pushing the limits of creativity and sustainable fashion.
Autumn winter’s output focuses on creating ‘beauty from waste’ – which has resulted in dresses and more made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, oilseed hemp crop waste and grape skins that are the by-product of the winemaking process.
The clothes are as exquisite as the fabric innovations.
My hero pieces in the 38-piece collection (8 of which are menswear, the rest womenswear) include a gorgeous grass-green tulle maxi dress (which is likely to sell-out immediately), a stunning summery yellow floral jacquard fabric which is presented in shirts, trousers and an off-the-shoulder gown and a turquoise fabric flower-covered mini dress.
Accessories include bold, edgy choker necklaces, earrings and shoe clips in recycled metals and a pair of sunglasses crafted from Made of Air®, a material partly made from waste biomass. The shoes can be worn as both a mule and boot with a removable sock, made from VEGEA™, a vegan leather partly made from wine by-products. Prints throughout the collection are inspired by floral wallpaper that has peeled off over time or tapestries from days gone by, while flower appliqués and moth motifs allude to both life and decay.
The price points are a little bit higher than you might expect to find at H&M, there are some affordable pieces like the accessories, which start at £19.99.
