Salma Hayek Wore Jonathan Simkhai To The 2020 National Board of Review Gala

Salma Hayek Wore Jonathan Simkhai To The 2020 National Board of Review Gala

Salma Hayek joined Billy Porter and Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet for the 2020 National Board of Review Gala held at Cipriani 42nd Street on Tuesday (January 8) in New York City.

The First Lady of Kering’s style can be a bit of a roller coaster, going from “hello girls,” to “suited and booted.”

This Jonathan Simkhai draped lamé midi dress falls somewhere in-between.

Classic in its wrap style with a hint of skin via the keyhole, my only issue here is the Gucci bag, as it feels a bit random.

I would’ve preferred something more chic and classic here.

Salma completed her look with her favourite Gucci platforms, which she has in every colour…naturally.

Nope. There is not one to like here. Its very unflattering.
I am glad she’s stepping out and trying different designers again, but this doesn’t work at all.

The shoes are awful. The dress is okay but is trending to matronly (too much fabric around the waist) but even so I prefer this to what Salma wore to the Golden Globes. Salma is a gorgeous woman but her body type is not an easy fit with designer clothes but you would think with all of her resources, she could make it work more often.

She hasn’t had the twins nearly bursting out in her last two looks so that’s welcomed. Also, glad to see her in something other than Gucci.
The bag doesn’t work with the rest of the outfit.

    Terrible!

Salma is tiny, so the platforms get a pass; she needs to be a certain height for the right angle at the photowall.

I love the dress on her, a lovely compromise of her typical style while still being refreshing.

I know she is tiny and all but please, for the love of all things, please find an alternative to those hideous platforms.

Ditto. I understand wearing major platforms under a floor-length gown or wide-legged trousers, and so on, when they do not show – in this case they in fact elongate the silhouette. But in this case, with this skirt length, they actually do the opposite in my eyes – they look heavy and stumpifying on her feet.

The dress is beautiful on her but the bag is completely out of place and those platforms are awful.

Well, the dress looks great on her!!
    It’s a first..
But the shoes and the bad are all wrong, too bad.

What is the fascination with those clunky ugly platform shoes?

I guess in Salma’s case, who is tiny, the idea is to give her some extra height. But somehow I think they do the opposite – they weigh her down and stumpify her, looking like hooves on her feet. Simple elegant elongating pumps would’ve done a better job.
