Lupita Nyong’o Dazzles in Bold Electric Blue Beauty Look at 2019 Golden Globes
‘Black Panther’ star Lupita Nyong’o consistently wows us with her excellent red carpet style and this year’s Golden Globes look was no exception. While her shimmering Calvin Klein by Appointment dress dazzled, it was her stunning blue beauty look that really captured audiences. Created by celeb makeup artist Nick Barose, the bold makeup look was all about modernizing the popular 80s tone and vibe while remaining fun.
“It’s fun to wear colors and you do it in small doses with liner and lashes without having it be the color on the whole eyelid,” says Nick. Paring contrasting colors on the eyes and lips, here’s how Nick achieved this playful beauty look with Lancôme:
SKIN: With such bold eyes, Nick wanted Lupita’s skin to be fresh and glowing. He achieved a radiant glow by infusing the skin with the extra moisturizing Lancôme Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Sheet Mask. Allowing the mask to work its magic for a few extra moments really allows the skin draw out a natural luminous finish. Nick then moved on to prep the undereye area. Using Lancôme Advanced Genifique Eye Light Pearl, Nick massaged the luminating concentrate along the eye contour which instantly gives a more rested appearance and texture. Following the mask, Nick blotted off any lingering product and applied a bit of Lancôme Absolue Revitalizing & Brightening Soft Cream onto the face and pulled the product down to the neck.
FACE: Once the skin was hydrated and prepped, Nick proceeded to prime Lupita’s skin with Lancôme Prep & Matte Primer along the t-zone. He then applied Lancôme Tient Idole Ultra 24h Long Wear Foundation in 550 onto her skin and softly blended outwards towards the jawlines using a damp sponge. To brighten up Lupita’s under eye area, Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer in 510 was applied. To lock in the base without losing the luminous finish, Nick dabbed Lancôme Translucence Loose Powder onto just the t-zone of the face. For added radiance and a more pronounced glow, Nick popped a bit of Lancôme Tient Idole Ultra Custom Highlighting Drops in Bronze Glow along the tops of Lupita’s cheekbones.
BROWS: For a structured yet soft brow, Nick applied Lancôme Sourcils Styler in Clear to Lupita’s brows after brushing them in a desired shape. To fill any sparse areas and define the brows, he used the ultra-precise Lancôme Brow Define Pencil in 14 Black, which created a long-lasting natural finish.
EYES: To create the eye look, Nick primed the lids with Lancôme Eyeshadow Primer Aquatique in 06 Sienne, a smooth, waterproof product proving long-lasting wear. Once primed, he proceeded by lining the upper lashline with Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in Noir Intense, dragging it into a slight wing for a lifted, lengthening effect. He then started building on the bold blue hues. He picked up the pewter shade in the Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in 602 Gris Fumme and concentrated the product into the crease and outer corners of the eyes. Using the electric blue Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in Cote D Azur, Nick lined Lupita’s waterline (lower lashes) for a bold accent to the dramatic eye look. To emphasize the electric blue tones of the makeup, Nick played up the lashes by adding wispy false eyelashes – Lashify Gossamer Royal Blue in C 12 – in the same bold shade to the outer corners. He then topped off the bold style by applying Lancôme Monsieur Big Color Lash Top Coat in 03 Blue at the base of the lashes. For a final defining touch, a delicate line using Lancôme Artliner in Noir was applied to the upper lash line following the shape of the initial liner.
LIPS: As a fun contrast to the dramatic eyes, Nick wanted the lips in a deep ruby tone. To ensure a smooth and hydrated pout, Nick prepped Lupita’s lips with Lancôme Absolu Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm. To gain the full hydrating benefits of the product, Nick allowed the product to fully absorb on the lips and removed the excess which left behind an ideal plump canvas for lip color. To create a sharp, defined shape, he lined Lupita’s naturally full pout with Lancôme Le Lip Liner in Portelle. For the luxurious ruby shade, Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Matte in 507 Drama’Atic was directly applied to Lupita’s lips. Nick suggests layering on an additional swipe of color for a more vibrant and intense color pay off.
BODY: Nick wanted Lupita’s skin to glow on the red carpet and made sure her full look remained hydrated and lustrous at all angles. He began by massaging Lancôme Nutrix Royal Body along her bare shoulders and down her arms. For the glistening effect, he strategically applied a mix of Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Custom Highlighting Drops in Bronze Glow onto the tops of her shoulders and along Lupita’s collarbones.
