Star-studded to say the least, Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary celebration was hosted in grand style with a runway show and black-tie dinner during New York Fashion Week on Friday (September 7). In homage to the legendary designer, all the beauties (and the boys, too) were clad in their Ralph Lauren finest.
Blake Lively: The actress continued her run of wearing suits from her ‘A Simple Favor’ promo tour with this tux-and-tails look. I loved it all, save for her hair, which I would have preferred in sleeker form to match the sartorial mood.
Jessica Chastain: A vision in sunny yellow, the actress would not be missed in this chiffon frock that was an enchanting, light-as-air confection.
Anne Hathaway: Like Blake, Anne was similarly clad in a menswear-inspired number that she feminized with her lightened locks, silver clutch, and stilettos.
Henry Golding: I like how Henry wore slipper loafers with this embossed suiting for a certain handsome allure and a luxe twist on the traditional tux.
Rose Byrne: This floral dress was all about feminine whimsy. And, even though her Hearts On Fire bangle was striking, I’m not sure it was needed with the matchy-matchy red lip, clutch, and shoes.
Tom Hiddleston: This tux had a little something special with its midnight-navy colour.
Ansel Elgort: There was a distinct military edge in this buttoned-up ensemble.
Priyanka Chopra: The recently engaged actress went for head-to-toe glitz in this patterned column gown.
Nick Jonas: As Priyanka’s other half, Nick went fancy himself in a white dinner jacket that was a sharp way to go formal — even if he looked a bit uncomfortable in it. Likely, it was just his pose.
Lily Aldridge: I like the soft mystique of this relaxed, caped gown.
Maria Sharapova: The tennis star worked her angles — literally — with this geometric frock.
Allison Williams: It doesn’t get more classic than this streamlined gown, styled with equally streamlined hair, even if it all felt a bit mature for the actress.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: Whereas Blake and Anne wore actual tuxedos, Rosie skipped the pants in favour of a sultry tux-inspired gown. I love her bombshell waves and matching satiny-white pumps and Tyler Ellis clutch to drive home the white-hot smoldering quality.
Iman: The ageless beauty wore a safari jacket with sequins and tribal-inspired jewelry for an intriguing study in style contrasts. Of course, I’m still focused on her fabulous hair.
Katherine Langford: All I can say is this caped and collared gown was much too sombre for a 50th anniversary celebration.
Camilla Belle: This scintillating, liquid-silver gown is more like it, with its dazzling party mood. A Ming Ray clutch and Chopard jewels completed the look.
Tracee Ellis Ross: Like Iman, Tracee combined several different style genres here, with the double-breasted suit jacket, the sparkly skirt, and turquoise accessories. I’m not sure it really worked, but it was right in line with her quirky style — and she looked beautiful with her sleek ’do and coral lip.
