Catherine Deneuve In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture – ‘3 Coeurs’ Venice Film Festival Premiere

After the photo call, Catherine Deneuve was back in red-carpet stride for the ‘3 Coeurs’ premiere at the 2014 Venice Film Festival in Venice, Italy on Saturday (August 30).

For the occasion, the French actress wore a French designer, donning a Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2014 Couture dress. She accessorized with a sparkling black Fendi clutch, Pomellato jewels and black embellished sandals.

I wanted to like this moment, if only for the magical, electric blue colour of the gown. Sadly, the trellis-like black embroidery that traced down the centre of the gown into a tulle-accented hem only served as a distraction.

That said, it was the quarterback shoulders that really turned me off this look.

Chiara Mastroianni attended the ‘3 Coeurs’ premiere, joining her mother Catherine Deneuve at the 2014 Venice Film Festival in Venice, Italy on Saturday (August 30).

Skipping a gown in favour of a shorter frock, the French-Italian star selected a Christian Dior Resort 2015 forest-green number with sheer, tapestry-inspired lace embroidery.

The dress riffed on the house of Dior’s tradition of scarves, what with the asymmetric patchwork placement of the delicate squares.

Perhaps if designed into a full gown, the frock would have embodied the drama I was missing here.

Charlotte Gainsbourg attended the ‘3 Coeurs’ photo call during the 2014 Venice Film Festival on Saturday (August 30) in Venice, Italy.

Surprisingly, the Anglo-French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg skipped a Louis Vuitton look in favour of an edgy Anthony Vaccarello Fall 2014 black leather mini-skirt with an asymmetric, spliced-to-there hem—one of the designer’s recognizable strong-sexy signatures.

Always carrying with her a seemingly effortless approach to style, she paired the leggy design with a roomy black sweater and put even less fuss towards her makeup-free face and barely-fixed hair.

I would have worn a shoe, sans ankle strap, to maximize leg line.

Still, this look had all the chic and ever-so-slightly rebellious spirit á la Charlotte that we’ve come to expect.

Catherine Deneuve attended the photo call for her film, ‘3 Coeurs,’ as part of the 2014 Venice Film Festival in Venice, Italy on Saturday (August 30).

The screen icon left no pattern unturned in a Prada Resort 2015 dress that featured an intricately decorative and brightly hued floral print.

Having been stripped of many of its original runway bells and whistles, including the label’s signature embellishment and eclectic styling, the frock had a more sophisticated and less quirky, but also less interesting, edge.

Jade-green earrings and black Saint Laurent ‘Tribtoo’ platform sandals completed the look.

Another more delicate and less imposing shoe might have made all the difference, here, as this pair was far too heavy—and frankly rather twee—for all that print.

Zhao Wei made a grand entrance at the premiere of ‘Dearest’ at the 2014 Venice Film Festival on Thursday (August 28) in Venice, Italy.

Taking to the red carpet with a statement-making swoosh, the Asian star selected a voluminous gown from the Vivienne Westwood Fall 2014 Capsule Collection paired with Christian Louboutin heels.

The bustling design suffered no shortage of drama—or fabric; its light lemon-meringue hue punctuated by a white ribbon sash and a black panel at the bottom.

A Judith Leiber magic 8-ball clutch tied the colours together with a cheeky edge, while Damiani jewels, including a sparkling pair of diamond earrings, topped off the look.
