Michelle Obama In Zac Posen – BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’

Michelle Obama In Zac Posen - BET's 'Black Girls Rock!'

Michelle Obama attended the BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ event at NJ Performing Arts Center on Saturday (March 28) in Newark, New Jersey where she received a standing ovation for her powerful, inspirational speech.

After wearing so much colour and prints during her tour of Asia last week, some might be relieved that the First Lady opted for a white, off-the-shoulder, knee-length dress from Zac Posen’s Fall 2015 collection, which marries classic elegance with contemporary design.

I love how the bustier gives this look a hint of sex appeal and the styling of the look, which included silver jewels and Jimmy Choo pumps, complemented the delicate embellishments on her frock.

I’m sure there will be some debate about her shoulders being on display, but I think she looks undeniably chic from head to toe and even as a lover of colour and print, I think this look beats all of her looks from the Asian tour.

Michelle Obama’s Tour Of Asia

Michelle Obama's Five-Day Tour Of Asia

United States First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in Japan last week for a three-day visit, as part of a drive to promote girls’ education around the world, before heading to Cambodia for two days. Wearing a range of designers, she dynamically showed her love of bold colours and prints—and her ability to wear them confidently and effortlessly.

Look 1: Michelle couldn’t have made a better first impression upon arrival at Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport on Wednesday (March 18), waving to onlookers in a citron-yellow Kenzo printed frock that had me at hello. The colour was glorious on her and so, too, was the box-pleated, voluminous skirt. Some might say the statement metallic belt was a bit too much, but I would say it added an artsy edge. I’m glad she chose the directional Japanese label—and that she wore it without a tinge of try-hard.

Look 2: On Thursday (March 19), FLOTUS attended the Japan-U.S. Joint Girls Education Event at the Iikura Guest House in Tokyo. She was radiant in an Altuzarra custom dress coat from the Spring 2015 collection with a burnt-orange, lotus-inspired stencil print; a motif likely selected to pay homage to her Japanese tour.

Michelle Obama In Michael Kors – State of the Union Address

Michelle Obama In Michael Kors - State of the Union Address
Michelle Obama was in attendance for the 2015 State of the Union address at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday (January 20).

For the notable evening, she dressed in an impeccably fit, black-and-white tweed suit ensemble from the Michael Kors Fall 2013 collection.

Slightly modified from the runway, the FLOTUS put a more conservative and classic twist on the design, removing the sportier belt and skipping the bolder accessories, including the jewels and the gloves.

Yet the look still boasted the effortless, modern flair we expect to see from the First Lady.

I love how the mock-cape, origami shoulder detail beautifully frames her face and neckline, especially given her gracefully styled waves and pop of pink lip lacquer.

Julianna Margulies’ ‘Good Wife’ character Alicia Florrick rather coincidentally has worn this same look, which garnered near-immediate ‘who wore it better’ comparisons.

Michelle Obama In Prabal Gurung – US African Leaders Summit

Michelle Obama In Prabal Gurung - US African Leaders Summit

Michelle Obama made a bright showing at a White House state dinner, hosted by President Obama for African leaders on Tuesday (August 5),

She once again pledged allegiance to her love of Prabal Gurung, wearing a look from the Nepalese designer’s Resort 2013 collection.

The radiant canary-yellow, silk chiffon frock with ruffle straps was shortened to tea length and featured a modified bodice from the lookbook, transforming the original gown into a more event-appropriate dress.

She emboldened the bold, nearly neon ensemble even more with the addition of an armful of bangles, statement earrings and the debut of a trendy, sleek topknot.

Her modest metallic pumps were the most standard piece of this look—not that anyone was paying attention to her shoes.

Did she maintain her first lady of fashion title here?

Michelle Obama spoke on stage during the LULAC/NUVOtv Unity Luncheon held at New York Hilton Midtown on Thursday (July 10) in New York City.

The First Lady continued her love affair for summery dresses of the Tanya Taylor variety by wearing a white sleeveless dress with blue floral embroidery from the designer’s Spring 2014 collection.

Keeping the accessories to a minimum while channelling effortlessly chic style, she completed her look with Jimmy Choo metallic-silver kitten heels.
