Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Here is a quick roundup of some of the men who have taken to the red carpet on this very quiet week.

Richard Madden: The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor, who is Prince Charming to Lily James’ Cinderella, joined his co-star on the red carpet for the LA premiere on Sunday (March 1). He wore Dolce & Gabbana with fine details that make this tuxedo suit the flawless epitome of black-tie elegance, but it’s the blue eyes that really draw you in.

Dev Patel: The British actor attended ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ premiere held at the Ziegfeld Theater on Tuesday (March 3) in New York City. I love Dev for never opting for the classic, expected look. Like David Oyelowo, Dev is not afraid of colour or experimenting with different fabrications. On this occasion he wore a Salvatore Ferragamo tan corduroy notched-lapel suit, which on paper doesn’t appeal but in real life exemplifies the essence of sartorial dressing. This look did make me chuckle as it reminded me of the ‘Sex And The City’ episode where Steve asks Miranda, “What’s wrong with corduroy?” to which she replies, “I don’t have enough time to tell you what’s wrong with corduroy.” Dev proves that statement wrong.

Chloe Sevigny In Louis Vuitton – ‘Bloodline’ Series Premiere

Chloe Sevigny attended the ‘Bloodline’ New York series premiere held at the SVA Theatre on Tuesday (March 3) in New York City.

The indie actress, who has been M.I.A. from the red carpet for a while, makes a return in Louis Vuitton.

I knew this Spring 2015 collection would appeal to Chloe as she’s never been afraid of complex prints and patterns, plus she’s very much a fan of the boots with her red carpet looks, so LV was a match made in fashion heaven – as apparently the prerequisite for wearing an LV look is to wear the footwear too.

What I love most about this look is how it commands your attention, possessing a girlish charm with vivacious, dramatic spirit.

On this rare occasion, I love the boots.

Lily James In Elie Saab Couture – ‘Cinderella’ LA Premiere

Lily James In Elie Saab Couture - ‘Cinderella’ LA Premiere

Lily James attended the premiere of Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ held at the El Capitan Theatre on Sunday (March 1) in Hollywood, California joining co-stars Sophie McShera and Cate Blanchett.

Not to be upstaged on her special night, the British actress wore a gown fit for a fairytale ending by the red carpet king, Elie Saab.

While some of you will be stifling a not-another-Elie-Saab-Couture-princess-gown yawn, I couldn’t be more enamoured by her Fall 2014 Couture aqua-green gown with its embroidered detailing and perfectly themed outward appearance.

Seriously, what’s not to love?

Oozing elegance from every pore, I love the swept-back do, the flawless makeup and the Kwiat diamonds, which help enhance the look further.

With her butterfly appliqué Christian Louboutin ‘Cinderella’ strass peep-toes acting as her glass slippers and her Charlotte Olympia ‘Time Piece’ clutch ensuring she’s back home by midnight, this is by far her best look of this promo tour.

Cate Blanchett attended the premiere of Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ held at the El Capitan Theatre on Sunday (March 1) in Hollywood, California.

The Australian actress wore a custom Celine look that personifies Parisian sartorial elegance.

Simple and yet intrinsically charming, this is quite a statement look for the contemporary dresser. What I love most is the pendant necklace, which prevents this look from feeling too one dimensional.

An instant classic or a total snooze?

Sophie McShera In Andrew Gn – ‘Cinderella’ LA Premiere

Sophie McShera attended the premiere of Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ held at the El Capitan Theatre on Sunday (March 1) in Hollywood, California.

The ‘Downton Abbey’ actress, who stars in this movie as Drizella, one of Cinderella’s older stepsisters, was not to be left in the corner wearing this bold floral-print Andrew Gn Resort 2015 gown.

I love how the colour signals that spring is upon us and the appliqués give a 3-D effect to those lush floral blooms. This was a gown worthy of a major movie premiere.

However, while I would never say that an actress in a movie should play down her red carpet look in order not to upstage the main star, in this case a part of me feels like that’s exactly what has happened here to Lily James.

By the same token, I will take nothing away from Sophie’s look. She often fades into the background, so I’m delighted she had her moment to shine.

If you are having a strong case of déjà vu, that may be because Kaitlyn Dever wore a short-sleeve version of this gown in a sunnier yellow and orange hue back in October.
