Anthony Vaccarello Leaves Saint Laurent After 10 Years
Saint Laurent officially announced Anthony Vaccarello’s departure today, bringing his ten-year tenure at the French fashion house to a close. It marks the end of a remarkable chapter, one that has given us countless memorable red carpet moments.
As someone who has followed and documented his work throughout his tenure, I couldn’t let this moment pass without saying thank you.
From the razor-sharp tailoring and daring silhouettes to the plunging necklines, exquisite eveningwear and unmistakable Saint Laurent attitude, Anthony gave us so much fashion to celebrate.
What I appreciated most was how he understood the house’s identity while continuing to make it relevant to a new generation. There was always a clear vision of the Saint Laurent woman, whether she was wearing a beautifully tailored suit, a dramatic evening gown or something that challenged our expectations.
Over the years, his designs have been a constant presence on Red Carpet Fashion Awards. Some looks became instant favourites, others sparked debate, but that is what makes fashion so interesting. Anthony gave us plenty to talk about, and I will always appreciate that.
His Saint Laurent era was also defined by the women who wore his designs so beautifully. From longtime muse Anja Rubik and Charlotte Gainsbourg to Zoë Kravitz, Virginie Efira, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoe Saldaña and Hailey Bieber, each brought something different to his vision. Whether it was Anja’s confidence, Charlotte’s nonchalant approach to dressing, Zoë’s daring red carpet choices, Virginie’s elegance, Rosie’s love of sleek silhouettes, Zoe Saldaña’s sophisticated glamour or Hailey’s modern take on Saint Laurent’s signature aesthetic, these women helped make his Saint Laurent era instantly recognisable.
Ten years is a long time in fashion, especially in an industry where creative directors seem to come and go faster than ever. To have maintained such a recognisable aesthetic throughout that time is an achievement worth celebrating.
As this chapter closes, I find myself looking back at the incredible fashion he has given us and feeling genuinely sad to see him leave.
