Dakota Johnson Swaps Sheer for Sequins at the MTV VMAs

Fresh from her London press tour for Verity, where Dakota Johnson gave us sheer lace followed by a colourful sheer moment, she changed the mood completely while presenting at the 2026 MTV VMAs.

Going sheer and showing your underwear is practically par for the course at the VMAs, so had Dakota arrived in one of her signature sheer looks, no one would have been surprised. Instead, she wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection blush iridescent sequin-embroidered gown – and my immediate thought was: why couldn’t we have had this for the Verity premiere?

That’s not to suggest the gown was wasted at the VMAs. This is one of the biggest music events of the year, broadcast around the world, and Dakota looked beautiful presenting on stage. But this dress deserved a red carpet moment.

After the two sheer looks she wore in London, imagine Dakota arriving at the Verity premiere in this. The clean silhouette, blush colour and subtle shimmer would have been such a welcome change of pace.

Instead, we got to see this stunning dress on Dakota standing behind a microphone.
