Catherine, Princess of Wales Is Resplendent in Amethyst Jenny Packham

As the world premiere of Digger was selected as the 2026 Royal Film Performance, the Prince and Princess of Wales joined the stars on the red carpet at Leicester Square in London this evening.

This is Catherine at her royal premiere best.

Although perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised, because Catherine usually delivers for these occasions. Her gold Jenny Packham gown for No Time to Die and that modern Roland Mouret moment for Top Gun: Maverick immediately spring to mind.

But I am completely blown away by this Jenny Packham chiffon gown. The floaty layers, open back and that hypnotic shade of amethyst make this one of Catherine’s most memorable red carpet looks for me.

And then there is the jewellery.

The colour of the gown was beautifully complemented by the Queen Mother’s amethyst, diamond and pearl sautoir necklace, which was presented to the then Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon by Queen Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1923. Despite records of the Queen Mother wearing it, no photographs are known to exist. The necklace finally resurfaced publicly on the then Duchess of Cornwall, now Queen Camilla, at the Skyfall premiere in 2012.

Beyond its history, it was an inspired choice for this gown. The amethysts pick up the purple beautifully.

I wouldn’t say the hairstyle is my favourite part of the look, but I can see why it was chosen. The long curls echo the free-flowing chiffon.
