‘Practical Magic 2’ Cast Close Out Their London Week
The ladies of Practical Magic 2 signed off their London press week with one more screening, and after several days of method dressing, archive tributes and botanical references, they weren’t finished with the film’s witchy world just yet. Joey King, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock and Maisie Williams each found a very different way to interpret it.
The Romantic
After two sheer looks, Joey King switched direction in a Zimmermann Valiant Lingerie mini dress, and I love that she stayed within the romantic mood without taking the darker route.
The cream lace, corseted bodice and trailing fringe have an almost vintage lingerie feel, which works beautifully for Practical Magic 2. It’s soft and feminine, but there are enough details in the lace, asymmetric hem and tassels to keep it interesting. Matching Blue by Betsey Johnson Roxie pumps cast the final spell.

Witching Hour
Nicole Kidman gave us her most overtly witchy look of the week in this burgundy Rodarte silk dress.
This is exactly the kind of Rodarte dress that makes sense within the Practical Magic universe. The deep burgundy silk, black lace trims and ribbon ties have a romantic gothic quality, and Nicole sells it. After her Chanel looks, I’m glad she gave us a new twist to close the week.

Corset Conundrum
Sandra Bullock’s look is where I’m struggling.
The pinstriped black shirt and wide-leg trousers are very Sandra-coded, but that contrasting ivory corset completely kills the look for me. I can’t shake the fact that it looks like a waist-training corset.
I understand why it’s there – the corsetry adds another period-inspired reference to a week filled with witchy dressing – but visually, my eye goes straight to that block of ivory and stays there. Without it, I would have loved this.

Floral Spell
Maisie Williams ended the London press week in a sheer black floral Paul Smith Fall 2004 archival dress, but there was more to this look than another botanical reference.
For the third look in her Sandra Bullock homage trilogy, Maisie and her stylist looked to Sandra’s wardrobe as Sally Owens in the original Practical Magic, specifically the floral Collette Dinnigan layered slip dress.
After referencing two of Sandra’s real-life red carpet looks earlier in the week, I love that Maisie turned to Sally Owens for the third. It’s another thoughtful layer to what has easily been one of the most interesting fashion stories of the London press tour.
