Sarah Pidgeon Continues Her ’90s Minimalist Style in Khaite

Fresh from her Today show interview, where Sarah Pidgeon discussed her first Emmy nomination for her performance as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in Love Story, the actress was spotted out in New York.

I know some of you aren’t really buying into Sarah’s ’90s minimalism and perhaps want to see another side of her style. Maybe you’re still thinking about the feathered Chanel look she gave us for the New York premiere.

I’m starting to think that was a one-and-done moment. It was a major premiere, she is a Chanel ambassador, and that was always going to be the occasion to go bigger. Since then, Sarah appears to have settled into a rhythm of understated luxury. We saw it earlier this week at the Televerse Festival, and again here in a Khaite Astor wool mini dress.

It also makes sense when you consider that she shares stylist Emma Jade Morrison with Kaia Gerber and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. All three favour a minimalist wardrobe built around clean silhouettes, neutral colours and investment accessories, although Sarah’s interpretation feels particularly suited to the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy conversation surrounding her right now. Whether that continues once the Love Story promotion ends will be interesting to see.

And has anyone else noticed what is happening with handbags lately?

We’ve seen the Loewe Amazona 180, the Louis Vuitton Capucines Edito and now the Balenciaga Rodeo designed to be carried with their compartments open and contents more accessible. I wouldn’t necessarily call it an “open-bag trend,” but there is definitely a shift away from the tightly closed, structured handbag towards bags that look partially undone.

I’m not sure my anxiety could handle walking around New York or London with my bag this open, but fashion certainly seems determined to test us.

Stylist: Emma Jade Morrison.
