As we know, the Australian actress is no longer working with her long-time stylist Elizabeth Stewart, and since that shift we’ve been seeing more experimental outings like this Maison Margiela Co-Ed Fall-Winter 2026 look inspired by Edwardian tailoring.

It is admittedly difficult to fully appreciate the detailing from the event photos alone, which is where the runway images become essential. The intricate ruffled trims, sheer layering, and elongated jacket construction are much clearer on the runway, where the collection’s eerie romanticism comes through more strongly.

I know many of you will be surprised to see Cate embrace a look this sheer, but thankfully the tailored jacket layered beneath the transparent overlay was cut long enough to avoid the outfit becoming overtly revealing. That balance is what keeps this from slipping into shock-value territory.

I still find myself on the fence about the look overall, but I suspect that has more to do with how far removed it feels from the Cate Blanchett red carpet image we’ve known for years. Right now, her style appears to be entering a more exploratory phase, where the goal is less about elegance in the traditional sense and more about challenging expectations.

The black Plexi Claw pumps set on transparent Perspex wedges completed her look.
