Janelle Monáe’s Christian Siriano Moss-and-Wire Look At The 2026 Met Gala
Janelle Monáe took the “Costume Art” theme quite literally, thankfully, for the 2026 Met Gala, delivering a look that reads as both installation and garment.

Wearing custom Christian Siriano, she stepped out in a sculpted piece built from cables, circuit-like elements, butterflies and mossy textures, creating a striking fusion of technology and nature. The dress doesn’t just sit on the body, it transforms it, turning her into a walking composition where mixed media is brought to life.
This is where the theme clicks. Rather than referencing a character or a specific costume, Janelle presents herself as the artwork. The intricate layering of materials, from metallic wiring to organic greenery, invites closer inspection, much like a gallery piece.
There’s also a narrative at play. The contrast between industrial and natural elements reads as her take on coexistence – machine versus environment – while the exaggerated silhouette keeps it rooted in fashion’s language of drama and presence.
If you’re anything like me, you might have assumed that this was Schiaparelli at first, because it instantly reminded me of the Schiaparelli Haute Couture look that Jodie Turner-Smith wore to the Tron: Ares Paris photocall back in September.
Rainbow K jewels completed her look.
