Meryl Streep Wore Givenchy & J. Crew On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Meryl Streep made a guest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she spoke about The Devil Wears Prada 2, noting that the original film was made on a shoestring budget compared to the sequel. She also shared that, while many assume she modelled Miranda Priestly after Anna Wintour, she was actually drawing on two of her favourite film directors.

It’s safe to say that Meryl has become the style star of this press tour, and that continued here in a Givenchy by Sarah Burton Pre-Fall 2026 bow-scarf coat styled with classic tuxedo cigarette trousers. I know animal print divides opinion, but this is exactly the kind of look that wins me over.

The success of this look comes down to focus. The leopard coat carries the entire idea, so nothing else competes with it. It’s bold without feeling forced, and it taps directly into the Miranda Priestly attitude, without slipping into imitation.

The look was styled with Fope earrings, which are proving to be her go-to for this press tour, along with a DeMellier The Hudson bag and slingback pumps.

Meryl once kept fashion at arm’s length, but this press tour tells a different story. With celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger, her press tour wardrobe feels purposeful, character-aware, and easy to connect with. It nods to Miranda without turning into costume, which is key.

Speaking of accessibility, when Meryl sat down with Colbert, she changed into a custom J.Crew cerulean cashmere cable-knit sweater designed by Olympia Gayot for this press tour. It was a direct nod to the iconic cerulean blue monologue – a reference that still lands because everyone remembers it.

Olympia Gayot said, “Meryl made cerulean a cultural thesis, so the bar was high. That monologue is so smart and funny – it reminds you that what feels personal is actually part of a much bigger story, which is why The Devil Wears Prada still resonates. At J.Crew, we’ve been obsessed with colour since 1983, so stepping into cerulean – the cerulean – with Micaela was equal parts honour and wink. Cashmere felt right: elevated, a little self-aware. And Meryl makes everything iconic. We just made sure this cerulean lived up to it.”

Dolce & Gabbana trousers, Gianvito Rossi pumps and Mejuri jewels completed this second look.
