The thing about over-anticipating a press tour is that the probability of being disappointed is often high. And with this duo, for this film, expectations were never going to be low.

Effortless Authority

Meryl Streep did not disappoint, wearing a navy Schiaparelli maxi shirt dress accented with the label’s gold-tone metal jeweled buttons, which she styled with gold pear-drop earrings and the label’s iconic face bag. This is exactly the kind of look that works for her. Effortless, refined without being thematic. The gold accents bring just enough personality, while the clean lines keep everything polished. It feels truly authentic to her.

Doing Too Much

However, I was so disappointed by Anne Hathaway. I feared we would get an over-exuberant moment like this, where she would do too much, and that fear was realised when she stepped out in a Stella McCartney Fall 2026 pink sequin dress. Don’t get me wrong, the colour and sparkle are fun, especially in this setting, but the boots, why? Why those boots? They feel heavy and distracting, pulling focus away from the dress rather than supporting it. I was glad when Eva Mendes swerved them at the Project Hail Mary New York premiere, but to see them here? Heartbreak. Actual heartbreak. What a disappointing and clumsy opener.
