Monica Supports Brandy at Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony
Monica joined her friend and collaborator Brandy, who was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday.
As someone who grew up listening to Monica and Brandy – and still has them on rotation – I wish this should have been a celebratory fashion moment, but instead, it feels frustratingly overcooked.

Too Much, Too Many Ideas
When it comes to Monica, I could have got on board with her LaPointe outfit if it had focused on just one statement. The feathers on one piece rather than both the top and trousers were overkill. The oversized pearl-accented Chanel crossbody bag was baffling, and paired with that layered pearl necklace, it pushes the look further into excess. I’m usually a fan of Monica’s style, but this feels unnecessarily busy.
The Styling Does The Damage Part II
Then we have the woman of the hour, Brandy. Again, the styling is the issue. This Alaïa ruffled bodysuit and barrel-leg trousers already carry a strong point of view, so the gloves and hat feel unnecessary. For a daytime ceremony, they read heavy and slightly out of sync with the setting. Remove those two elements, and the look immediately sharpens.
Two icons, both let down by styling choices.
