Ariana Grande Wore Vintage 1950s Demi-Couture To The ‘Wicked: For Good’ After-Party

After closing the Wicked: For Good London premiere, Ariana Grande was spotted leaving an after-party in Mayfair wearing yet another archival gown, proving that this era of her press tour is literally pulling history into the present.

The gown is a vintage 1950s demi-couture creation, and everything about it speaks to the workmanship of that period. Tier upon tier of pleated black tulle creates a cloud-like volume, with additional layers tucked beneath to keep the structure intact rather than ballooning outward.

What keeps the gown from feeling costume-heavy is the detailing: soft, hand-formed white floral appliqués placed across the bodice and skirt. They break up the darkness, adding delicacy, which is further enhanced by the sheer cape-effect overlay that creates a gently veiled frame around her shoulders.

There’s a romantic theatricality at play, and it feels like Ariana has stepped fully into the storytelling of this ’50s era through a genuine love for the craft of clothes.
