The actress wore a sculpted Bordeaux spiral gown from Gaurav Gupta’s Fall 2024 Couture Jyotirgamaya collection. With its corseted bodice and dramatic architectural drape — a signature of Gupta’s surrealist approach — the design struck that elusive balance between strength and sensuality.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: wasn’t this the dress she was supposed to wear to the opening ceremony? And yes, I’m reliably informed that it was. Which makes this feel like a missed opportunity.

The train isn’t even that long — Heidi Klum’s from the very same event was at least as lengthy — so why this wasn’t her red carpet opener is baffling. This was the gown that needed the Cannes spotlight, not a dimly lit dinner. It would’ve set the tone for her appearance this year, showcased Gupta’s stunning craftsmanship on one of the most beautiful women in the world, and, frankly, saved us from those other dresses that just didn’t quite hit the mark.

Matching Bordeaux shoes (though I wish they’d gone with a sandal) and Chopard jewels with complementary gemstones completed the look.
