2024 Met Gala Red Carpet Roundup

Here is the roundup from the 2024 Met Gala which took place on Monday.

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt wore a traditional saree by Indian couturier Sabyasachi.

The translucent, glass-like appearance was not only a nod to the ethereal quality of the garden in Ballard’s story, it was also a tribute to the exquisite, enduring craft of saree-making with a 23-foot train adding a dramatic effect.

Aya Nakamura wore a custom Balmain gown with the pastel-coloured floral ornaments of roses and spikes sculpting the body informing us that this was inspired by the Spring 2024 collection.

Bee Carrozzini and Alexander McQueen have a long history at this event.  The socialite’s latest look is from the British label’s Spring 2016 collection.

Camila Cabello wore a beautiful mesh rose-gold Ludovic de Saint Sernin  dress inspired by the Spring 2022 collection, but all anyone could talk about was her custom Jane Wade clutch which was a block of ice.

The clutch was supposed to be a purse with a chain, but naturally, as the ice block melted, the chain was the first thing to come apart. Considering the deliberately distressed nature of the dress the whole concept worked perfectly.

However, the blond hair isn’t working for her.

Camila Mendes wore a custom Altuzarra dress inspired by decaying blooms, which is depicted by the embroidered flowers, which unravel into soft ruffles down the length of the dress. The frayed edges also evoked wilted flowers.

EFFY Jewelry completed her look.

Styled by Molly Dickson.

I don’t like anything about Chloe Sevigny’s custom Dilara Findikoglu look or her styling, but I can respect that this Victorian inspired dress is on theme.

Styled by Haley Wollens.

Granted, there is a strong feeling of familiarity when it comes to this nude tulle encased corseted dress, with hand embellished crystal daisy detailing, but I’m still totally enamoured by Eve Hewson in this Simone Rocha gown inspired by the Fall 2024 collection, and it’s on theme.

I also love how the Irish actress repped an Irish designer.

Styled by Karla Welch.

Seeing FKA Twigs in this Stella McCartney sustainable design styled with Giuseppe Zanotti GZ Aida platforms, all I can say is, I hope Doja Cat was taking notes.

Because alternative doesn’t have to equal hot mess.

Gwendoline Christie, who walked the runway for the Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Haute Couture show, brought back the magic of that moment in this custom design by John Galliano, which was styled with matching custom-made Tabi pumps by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

Considering the Sleeping Beauties theme, Gwendoline was serving wicked step-mother with aplomb.

Karol G was channelling Elf Queen up top, and a Bugs Life from the waist down in Marc Jacobs.

Jennie Kim wore a custom Alaïa asymmetrical draped dress embellished with a belly chain designed by Pieter Mulier inspired by the looks presented in the Summer Fall 2024 show, rather than the theme.

Jessica Biel was having a garden party in Tamara Ralph Spring 2024 Couture styled with Cartier jewels.

Styled by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn.

Seeing Keke Palmer in this Marc Jacobs dress, I want to start singing, “She’s your Queen-to-be.”

As one of the Vogue hosts of the night, La La Anthony wore an Alexander McQueen Fall 2023 strapless gown which depict a beautiful red orchid in full flower.

I love the gothification of this look with the lace bodysuit and the smouldering makeup.

French author Lena Mahfouf brought Le jardin du temps to the Met Gala wearing a brilliant Schiaparelli Haute Couture sculpted flower creation which was worthy of an occasion such as this.

Styled by Clement Lomellini.

Lena Waithe wore a custom Etro three piece leather ensemble which stood out thanks to the floral ‘Rose Vertigo’ embroidery and crystal embellishments.

Styled by Jason Bolden.

Lily Gladstone wore a custom Gabriela Hearst look styled with Ataumbi Metals jewelry.

Styled by Jason Rembert.

Just when we thought Lizzo had turned a corner style-wise, this Weinsanto look happened.

Styled by Reginald Reisman.

Gaurav Gupta made his Met Gala debut, unveiling ‘The Melting Flower of Time’ in collaboration Mindy Kaling.

Draped in a custom gown and cape, the actress exudes timeless grace, effortlessly embodying the theme of ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’.

Danielle Frankel, who is known as a bridal designer, channelled her signature romantic sensibilities into this strapless double layered gown for Rebecca Hall, which was accented with dreamy printed watercolour effect and hand painted florals keeping the look on theme.

I think this is where Michael Kors was trying to go with Kelsea Ballerini, but it didn’t land.

Storm Reid wore a custom Coach look featuring a vintage-inspired corset top and skirt with playfully amplified volume, paired with a repurposed moto jacket crafted with vintage garments.

I love the idea, but the Coach Times Square Tabby bag and New York City souvenir charms turned me off this look, much like Zoe Saldana’s Chloe belt.

She really should have just let the look breathe.

Styled by Jason Bolden.

After seeing Anok Yai’s wearing a catsuit which melted against her skin, and Janelle Monáe’s corset doing the same, there was no reason why Taraji P. Henson’s Simkhai corset gown should look this bad.

The gown is horrendous to being with, but the corset killed any hope of this being on any best dressed list.

I’m in genuine shock.

Styled by Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald.

Shakira isn’t someone who I usually look out for on the red carpet, but I was blown away by this Carolina Herrera column gown styled with a sculptural rose-shaped cape.

Stuart Weitzman sandals and Cartier jewels completed her look.

Styled by Nicolas Bru.

Venus Williams’ wore a Marc Jacobs mirror disc embroidered strapless gown, which appears to be completely sheer, yet it features a neoprene layer – which forms the exaggerated shape – which matches her skin-tone.

Can somebody show this to Jonathan Simkhai?

Styled by Vincent Tobias.

Lily James wore an Erdem dress, but not as we know it, as the designer’s signature bold florals gave way to a muted set.

Where do you stand on this? Should Erdem have gone full throttle on the theme?

Boucheron jewels completed her look.

Styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray.

As we all know, Phoebe Dynevor is a Louis Vuitton ambassador, but since the label skipped this year’s Met Gala, the British actress turned to British designer Victoria Beckham, who was inspired by her Spring 2024 collection in designing this pink lace sheer gown.
