The Return Of An Icon: The Lanvin Ballerina

LANVIN revisits a cult classic from the house’s archives: the LANVIN Ballerina.

Since its invention by ballet innovator Charles Didelot in the late 18th century, the ballet slipper has become emblematic of French elegance. It first entered the fashion lexicon in the mid-20th century; the shoe’s feminine yet pragmatic appeal resonated with the everyday needs of women throughout the world.

The ballet slipper became a defining style of the era while LANVIN’s iconic Ballerina acquired a cult status of its own in the 2000s. So coveted and cherished, it demands its own chapter in the house’s biography.

Recognizing the Ballerina’s timeless appeal and commemorating it as part of the house’s heritage, LANVIN now revisits the cult classic shoe.

LANVIN’s new Ballerina is a confluence of style and functionality, comfort and craftsmanship, high French culture, and everyday Parisian chic. Its streamlined and rounded silhouette has been honed throughout the centuries and perfected by the LANVIN design studio.

The new design features the ultra-flexible construction, elastic, and integrated mini wedge. A contrasting pull tab embossed with the house’s logo is set at the back of the shoe. The Ballerina will be available in both matte and patent leather.

It will be introduced later in new variations, adorned of a bijou or a bow.

The Ballerina will have a renaissance this September with a campaign lensed by photographer Théo de Gueltzl. De Gueltzl’s surreal and otherworldly eye invites the viewer to reimagine the familiar favourite with a new playfulness and sense of discovery.

Much like the shoe and LANVIN’s newfound elegance, the campaign is a strikingly bold expression of timeless simplicity.

LANVIN’s Ballerina will be available globally in Lanvin boutiques, on Lanvin.com and other retailers including farfetch.com and Luisa via Roma.
