Here is a roundup from the 2023 Venice Film Festival opening ceremony which took place on Wednesday (August 30) in Italy, on what was a relatively busy red carpet despite the SAG strike.

I feel like I shouldn’t love Bianca Brandolini D’Adda’s Schiaparelli Spring 2023 gown because of the contrasting light ivory satin and heavy black velvet, but I adore everything about it: the juxtaposition is what sells the look to me.

Perhaps it has something to do with us moving into a transitional season, or that she looks beautiful in this unusual gown.

However, this could be one of those gowns which is only appreciated from a certain angle.

Cartier jewels completed her look.

I know some will be unmoved by Bianca Balti’s Ermanno Scervino strapless draped silk chiffon gown, but I was enamoured by the colour and styling, which included Pomellato jewels.

Armani Beauty ambassador Elisa Visari was probably unaware that Madisin Rian wore this same Armani Privé gown 11 months, 3 weeks and 3 days ago to the ‘Bones & All’ Venice Film Festival premiere

Italian model Paola Turani looked radiant wearing a snow-white Zuhair Murad Resort 2024 halter gown enriched with a bejewelled neckline.

You would think that no jewels were needed, but her Cartier earrings, ring and bracelet added to the icy feel.

Silvia d’Amico, who plays a leading role in the festival’s opening film ‘Comandante,’ wore a typically simple, yet elegant Giorgio Armani gown.

Between the velvet, the shape of the bodice and the delicate embellishments, this made me think of Angelina Jolie, as this is the style of gown which the ‘Maleficent’ actress would’ve selected during the height of her all-black era.
