Lupita Nyong’o Wore Tory Burch To The ‘Queen Of Glory’ Q&A

Lupita Nyong’o posted this image to her Instagram with the caption, “Thrilled to support my gorgeously talented friend @itsnanamensah on her triple-threat directorial debut #QueenOfGlory premiere. (She wrote, directed and stars in it like a BOSS!)
Now screening at @bam_brooklyn #runandgoseeit.”
Fresh from her trip to Italy where she served up many glamorous outfits, the actress eased back into everyday life with this Tory Burch The Claire McCardell dress.
This dress has a timeless shape designed to have a modern attitude and movement. Its namesake is credited with inventing American sportswear in the ’40s and ’50s when her elegant and practical clothes revolutionized the way women dressed.
With Lupita being something of a trailblazer herself, this seems like the perfect marriage.
What I love most about this dress is the contrasting green corset-style detail.
Something about it – no doubt the contrast, Tory Burch’s inspiration from women globally and Lupita’s African heritage – reminded me of a Kanga which African women used to carry their children around their torso.
Had I not evoked that memory from childhood, I wonder if I had been so charmed by this outing.
We weren’t the biggest fans of Lupita’s makeup in Italy, so you’ll be happy to see her work with more complementary shades on this occasion.
