Doja Cat Wore Balmain To The 2021 Billboard Music Awards
Doja Cat picked up the Top R&B Female Artist Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards which was hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (May 23).
The singer channelled her inner Beetlejuice wearing a black and white striped two-piece look from Balmain’s Spring 2020 collection.
I can’t say I’ve been the biggest fan of Doja Cat’s style on account that it has often felt like she’s been following the Nicki Minaj blueprint, but this look feels authentic to Doja.
If I set aside the length of the trousers – which appears to be par for the course when it comes this collection (see Ciara, Maya Jama, Rosalía) – I’m excited by the avant garde style of the top, the richness imbued by the African-inspired halter necklace, the way the Jacob & Co. earrings add yet more intrigue, and the complementary blue futuristic eye makeup, and I have to say that I’m totally enamoured by this look.
I’m not sure this will be a shared feeling, she kinda nailed it for me – from the ankles up of course.
