Viola Davis Wore Duro Olowu To The 2021 NAACP Image Awards

Viola Davis was won Best Actress in a Motion Picture for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and Best Actress in a Drama Series for ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday (March 27).

This moment, period, era — whatever you want to call it — of Viola’s life, career and style fills me with so much joy.

That is not to say that she wasn’t graceful and elegant before, but something has changed. It is intangible, and it is coming from Viola herself.

Her confidence, or her aura.  She appears to be really loving life at the moment, and her energy each time she steps out is so infectious.

For her double win she wore a peplum mermaid dress which was a custom creation from Nigerian-born British designer Duro Olowu.

In all honesty I’m probably more enamoured by Viola than the dress itself, as I think the peplum was one element too many, especially with such a vivid print, but there is still no question that this was one of the highlights of the night.

Boucheron jewels completed her look.
