On Saturday (November 7), ‘Veep’ star Julia Louis-Dreyfus congratulated Kamala Harris with a tweet that said ‘”Madam Vice President” is no longer a fictional character!’ which captured the mood of the nation.
In her speech Kamala Harris said that she is the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian person to become Vice President which made us all feel that the glass ceiling has finally shattered. This was particularly felt when Kamala said, “I may be the first woman to hold this office. But I won’t be the last.”
Her first public address as Madam Vice-President saw her wear a Carolina Herrera white trouser suit with a Tory Burch pussy-bow blouse which held plenty of significance.
White is widely considered a symbol of the suffragette movement of the early 20th century, when activist organizations fought for women to have the right to vote. This year marks the 100th anniversary of that movement which feels like it was written in the stars.
The look was complete with Manolo Blahnik heels.
While this is a fashion website and I am keen to see what she wears in her new role, but I won’t be getting carried away with expectations when it comes to her style.
I do not expect floral dresses, or embellished cardigans. As Madam Vice-President I’m expecting suits and sharp tailoring, and plenty of repeats.
I’m also not expecting a fashion show of looks for our entertainment.
