Not everything is black and white in Janelle Monáe’s world, as showcased by the actress in her latest Instagram post where she encourage her 3.6 million followers to vote.
The actress-singer whose hair was dyed red by Nikki Nelms last month, opted to matched her Versace Fall 2020 blazer to her curls wearing a red and black houndstooth blazer, with the keyhole gingham dress we saw on the runway.
You’ll be forgiven if you thought this was from Balenciaga, as this piece has the same distinctive curves we saw on Balenciaga’s Hourglass blazer designed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, who said it took him months to perfect.
Due to the nipped-in waist Janelle didn’t need the runway belt.
The shoulders are already quite overwhelming due to the padding, so I feel had she worn the belt, there was a danger that the silhouette would’ve looked very cartoon-ish on her like Popeye.
This look wasn’t going to be presented without some bold accessories – as this is Janelle’s signature – so I’m not surprised to see both a hat and these white Lonchamp booties; which imbue a retro vibe to this look.
