Cardi B’s Weekend of Feathers, Fur & Large Hats

Cardi B @ Beautycon in Ralph & Russo Couture

Grammy winner Cardi B partied at the grand opening of Kaos Dayclub & Nightclub at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday (April 5), before headed to Beautycon Festival.

Kaos Dayclub & Nightclub: My first impression of this Ralph & Russo Spring 2019 Couture mint organza gown accented with devoré ostrich feather embellished tiers was; “this is way too OTT for the event”.

Yes, Las Vegas is all about OTT and excess, but I think this look, with the accompanied hat – deserved a grander moment.

Then again, looking at the rather limp fabric, perhaps this was the best place for it.

Beautycon Festival: From Las Vegas, the rapper headed to New York for Beautycon Festival on Sunday (April 7), where she was delving into the archives again, this time in Paco Rabanne.

Her coat which hails from the Fall 2005 collection was styled with a colour co-ordinated Sarah Sokol Millinery hat and Casadei pumps.

As you can imagine a lot of people are disappointed that she opted to wear fur, and I am one of them – but by the same token, I don’t expect much a socially conscious moment from Cardi B.

She has the OTT personality to pull them off, wish the first was better constructed and yeah she wore fur, it’s an archival piece as you pointed out, not new fur.

Cardi is the vivid example of the power of makeup.

Ugh. That first is tacky beyond belief. It looks cheap and ugly.
    The second has fur…………

Actually, she was quite socially conscious during the US partial government shutdown. So I am not quite so quick to judge. Love the metallic footwear but that’s about it.

    That coat is an abomination!

I love the feathers in the first look, but that’s about it. The fabric of the dress looks odd. The styling of the second look I don’t get at all. But at least she seems to be having fun.

I’ve always considered Ralph and Russo as the Zara of couture. They do a little bit of Chanel, bit of Giambattista Valli bit of Ellie Saab and similar designers and bits of everything else. People have actually pulled out vintage looks, vintage Vogue patterns or of gowns of socialites they have copied exactly and labeled not just as their own but also called them couture. The stitching and construction in the first look here isn’t worthy of being called couture.

Both feel very Alexis from Dynasty.

The first look is horrible. I think the dress looks cheap as does the hat. It does not look as bad on the model but the outfit up closer on Cardi B just shows how cheaply made the dress looks. The second outfit is just unflattering. I think the wearer needs more height to pull it off. Cardi B’s shoes are best part of both looks.

the Ralph and Russo looks really cheap….the finishing and the fabric.

I see no theme in their collections. They are all over the place with repetitive looks from previous seasons.
