Tessa Thompson In Tingyue Jiang & Thom Browne – Build Series & ‘Sorry To Bother You’ New York Premiere
It would appear that Tessa Thompson is undergoing a change of direction style-wise.
Many of you weren’t onboard with her Rosie Assoulin MTV Awards look, so I’m intrigued to find out how you feel about these two latest offerings.
Build Series: If you watched the BOF Summit talk with Elizabeth Saltzman, Jason Bolden and Karla Welch, they all said in unison that they love discovering and breaking new designers. It appears that Tessa’s stylists, Wayman + Micah share that sentiment, as they outfitted Tessa in a dress by Parsons MFA graduate Tinygue Jiang. What I love about this piece is the imperfect elements, like the ripped shoulder and jagged edges. The look feels so raw and exposed, yet beautiful and fashion forward. Brother Vellies ‘Palms’ pump in ostrich feathers with plexiglass heel plus Dylanlex jewels completed the look, along with a single strand of white beads in her braids.
‘Sorry To Bother You’ New York Premiere: There are so many elements to her Thom Brown Spring 2018 look, that I’m not sure where to start. The lines are continually blurred between women’s and menswear, and no one does this better than Thom Browne. I love the semi-sheerness of the plaid fabric and the suspended skirt for a truly unique look. The point at which I found myself struggling was the accessories. The Thom Browne shoes barely pass, but the briefcase attempts to take this down a costumey path. Perhaps had the bag been smaller, I would’ve been on board. Carelle rings completed her look.
