Tracee Ellis Ross In Balmain 44 François Premier – 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

I always look forward to seeing what mood Tracee Ellis Ross will project on the red carpet. At the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday (March 4), she made a strong, sharp-shouldered statement, alongside Rashida Jones and Sarah Paulson.

The ‘Black-ish’ actress shimmered in a Balmain 44 François Premier gown. It was a quieter look given the designer’s penchant for dramatic opulence, but in no way was it boring.

The bodice, festooned with embellishment, created a dynamic textural contrast against the soft pleating of the black skirt.

She married the two fabrics with a Judith Leiber clutch and Roger Vivier shoes.

more squished boobs; looks very uncomfortable and matronly.

I would like it much better without the ring detail, and with a less padded shoulder.

No. It looks terribly constricting in the chest area, and creating the illusion of a black dress with a bolero makes me uncomfortable seeing that the black dress would not cover her properly.

The gathered fabric with the ring looks very dated, too… Not a fan, sorry.

I agree about the chest area. The shape of the bolero part also reminds me of boulders, and considering the positioning, it’s just too subliminal.

I rather like the gathered fabric part, though.

This is a dress for Jane Fonda, too ageing for Tracee.

The buckle(?) is very distracting. It would have been a strong look otherwise

If it didn’t have that diamante ring, I’d be on board – that dates it a little bit where the top is so sharp. I really like the greyish tone to the crystals, and the cupped shape is interesting without recalling undergarment tailoring in too tired a way.

I love the look but I feel if the waist broach was done away with it would be a more successful look. this looks powerful without trying too hard.

80s dream. I like the bolero

She’s working this! I think this is the best she’s ever looked! So beautiful

I could see her in Sarah Paulson’s look with the runway headress included. This feels restrained for her but it’s elegant especially for Balmain with the embellishments giving party glamour.
