The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Visit To Sweden – Day 2

The second day of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal visit to Sweden brought with it a trio of looks for Catherine, where she made the rounds in Stockholm on Tuesday (January 31),

Karolinska Institute Visit: Another day, another Catherine Walker coat from one of Catherine’s favoured labels. Yet, this red houndstooth number was a bolder departure for the duchess, and I loved every minute of it—especially because it was reminiscent of a Moschino look that Lady Diana wore in December 1990. However, Catherine did keep her accessories in rather safe, classic territory with a burgundy Chanel bag and matching Tod’s shoes along with Cornelia James gloves and In2Design baroque pearl earrings.

Inside: Once inside, Catherine replaced her coat with a tweedy, winter-white dress that you may be surprised to learn was Alexander McQueen, as it was such a subtle, conservative statement. I do think the burgundy handbag and pumps were a better fit here.

Fotografiska Gallery: She wore an Erdem floral dress to round out the day yesterday, and that trend continued here with this empire-waist design from the label’s Fall 2017 collection. The rich blue hue was so striking on her, but I was wishing for a different pair of shoes without ankle straps. Her last Erdem frock didn’t fare too well for many, so does the colour improve this second outing for you?

Ah, if only she got rid of the fig leaf… I don’t actually like the red/white coat but I like the choice of accessories with it. That’s how highly I rate these looks, yup.

I love the red houndstooth coat but the accesories do not match. The middle McQueen was just ok – nothing bad about it, but nothing good either. The third is awful.

Also thanks for linking to Princess Diana in Moschino, that’s one of my all time favorite looks from her!

She’s just boring overall even when some elements are stylish. I guess that’s all okay for the future queen? It’s clear style isn’t her thing and she only half understands that it needs to be elegant. She is always missing something.

She goes from bad to worse. How anyone can call her a style icon perplexes me . She dresses worse than most of the mothers at my daughter’s boarding school and that’s quite an achievement.

      LOL

So she’s wearing a BRIGHT red and white houndstooth coat with a BURGUNDY bag, BURGUNDY shoes (both with gold detailing), BLACK gloves and pearl earrings? Que le f…? Really?

And another Erdem disaster. I checked some reactions online and it seems that even the most hardcore, loyal royalist Kate fans are left scratching their heads after seeing this dress. When even your most loyal, die-hard fans, who are usually eager to overlook stylistic faux pas, are puzzled by your stylistic choices. maybe, just maybe, it’s time for a style overhaul.

I’m always willing to name positive things I DO like about a certain look, but in this case I’m not willing anymore. What’s the point?

I really like the red and burgundy together! It reminds me of when Victoria Beckham wore a red and burgundy outfit last year. https://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2017/05/04/victoria-beckham-victoria-beckham-gare-du-nord/#comments

The gloves definitely needed to be burgundy too though to tie it together.

I get your point Mimi. I do like the Victoria Beckham outfit and not everything has to be matchy matchy. However, the VB outfit is a relatively minimalist outfit and the colours come together in a colour block effect. The DoC’s outfit just has too many different colours and elements to really tie it together in my opinion. It just looks too mismatched for me, sorry.

+1. You nailed it, the minimalism of VB’s outfit saved the colour combination. Here it’s too busy and mismatched. Ruins coat, which was the best piece of the day.

    1. great coat, but the accessories do not match
    2. that look is gorgeous on her
    3. the dress is so much better on the runway. Gorgeous fabric. She should have either taken off the ruffle or it should have been longer. The shoes are really bad too.

It is such a shame, because some looks have great potential, but there is always something missing to make them really good.

The coat is fun but the accessories are terrible. The other looks are entirely forgettable.

I’m loving all 3 looks! The first is my favorite, that coat is to die for.

I really like the Houndstooth coat and the McQueen dress, a big NO to the Erderm dress.

I preferred yesterday’s Erdem look. I like the first two, though.

      Totally agree.

She needs to stay far far far away from Erdem. That awful ruffle at the bottom, again. *averts eyes* At least the color is nice.

    • Schoolbea February 2, 2018 at 10:27 am #

Hate those ruffles, too. I generally don’t like Erdem dresses, but when they have the ruffle it’s a new level of awful.

I only like the second look.

    • Alina February 1, 2018 at 7:17 am #

      +1

Blue is a great color for the duchess. I do wish she would stop wearing that dated hair style for evening events. Ankles up and hair down, the third look is a win for her. The second is also a good look. Two out of three ain’t bad.
