The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Visit To Sweden – Day 1

It would seem Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge together with Prince William, Duke of Cambridge had a packed first day of their four-day visit to Sweden and Norway on Tuesday (January 30), attending a number of royal engagements in Stockholm.

Bandy Hockey Match: Showing her classic sportsmanship, Catherine donned a Burberry ‘Toddingwall’ shearling trench coat topped off by a playful Eugenia Kim ‘Rain Pom Pom Beanie Hat’. She further bundled up in a bordeaux-hued Brora cable-knit snood, Sorel ‘Torino’ waterproof ankle boots and hockey gloves. But, it was the pure fun she seemed to be having here that was what really mattered.

Lunch at the Royal Palace: Offering the subtle peek at her burgeoning bump, she changed into a simple Catherine Walker bespoke ‘Bea’ shift dress for the lunch date. Her Kiki McDonough ‘Special Edition’ green gemstone earrings helped to enliven the look, whilst she returned to more traditional ground with her go-to black pumps, these by Tod’s.

Walk From Royal Palace to the Nobel Museum: Bundling up for the cool weather, she again relied on favoured designer Catherine Walker for this wool coat that was a richer take on the green hue by virtue of the fur details that were echoed in her Peruvian Connection alpaca fur hat. A Mulberry ‘Mini Seaton’ bag and Stuart Weitzman half-n-half suede boots completed the ever-so-elegant look.

Dinner: Erdem is another go-to label for Catherine during her royal tours, and this ‘Stephanie’ floral gown presented a look that was conservative in silhouette, yet bolder in colour and print than we might first expect. The most special part of the ensemble, though, were Princess Diana’s Collingswood earrings.

Has this girl a sports patronage already? Her work for mental health is all well and good, but she can’t be beaten when she gets to do sporty stuff. I just don’t get how this hasn’t occurred to her yet.

Another Russian Empress outfit (catching up with the blog in reverse). I like this better for how the coat flows actually. I might even call this classic. That said, one outfit in this style would have been enough. I get Sweden must be cold, but come on.

The less said about the Erdem the better. A couple of seasons ago I couldn’t get enough of the floral print they were eating out on again and again and again. This misses the mark so badly it’s shocking.

I don’t understand some of the epidermic reactions she gets. It feels like she receives harsh comments for looks that would be deemed “classic” on others. Besides, the women is in her third trimester and walks around in heels. Can’t she get a pass?
I’m not a fan of the Erdem, but I like the sporty look and I think green looks gorgeous on her.

Really it is a disaster! For me Catherine has always been dressing up like an old person. Nothing elegant you cannot compare with Maxima or Leaticia… and once again she confirmed it with these hideous looks

I don’t mind the first row. The green coat is fabulous, the colour suits her so well.

Here in Spain I’ve seen the press praise the Erdem look… I fail to see anything positive in it apart from the novelty. The dress is hideous and her styling doesn’t improve matters.

I’ve long given up on being excited by anything she wears. The first look is the best because it is youthful. The rest of the looks are so matronly. She’s been dressing like a woman 30 years her senior for so long now, I guess it just her style. When she’s 60 it might be stylish but for now I just see a beautiful young woman dressing dowdy and it’s rather heartbreaking fashion wise. The floral gown is pretty awful BTW. Maybe it was chosen to accommodate her growing mid section, but it doesn’t flatter at all!

Why does everyone point to age 60 . I’m 60 and would wear half her clothes or if I did I’d style them better. You don’t suddenly turn dull at 60 !

      • LeeAnn January 31, 2018 at 17:10 #

        Wouldn’t wear

      • Nat January 31, 2018 at 22:02 #

LeeAnn I think she meant that it ages her. It makes her look older than she is. I agree with you Camille I have given up her style long time ago.

I only like the first look. It’s the most modern and youthful look of the four and the coat is lovely. I dislike the fur pom pom on the beanie hat. Fake fur would haven been fine.

The second look is a good colour for her, but I dislike the high neck and the somber, joyless accessorizing. Leave it to her stylist to suck all the life out of an outfit with aging, uninspired accessories.

Third look is chic, but matronly. Hate, hate the fur hat. Because it’s fur and because it’s so freaking dated!

Fourth look. I can’t say anything about this dress that hasn’t been said here already. Awful beyond belief.

The Erdem dress is terrible. The fabric is awful, color wrong for her, and the style is downright ugly. The other looks are fine…she is not a fashionista, and we should stop expecting her to be one!

The Erdem gown is actually my favourite look of the lot. The main misgiving that I have is the harsh, ageing hair and makeup. I wish Catherine had gone for a lighter, more dewy makeup look and loose curls as she sported in the second look – it would have provided an uplifting contrast to he gown.

  9. LeeAnn January 31, 2018 at 11:39 #

Is Erdem a republican ? That is such a hideous dress – the cut , the colours, the pattern – awful ! The rest of the outfits are a snooze fest . The green combo would have been nice had she put some effort in accessorizing it – a beautiful broach for example . Wait till you see her red houndstooth coat today accessorized with burgundy (wtf?) and black gloves . Hideous .

  10. SilentVisitor January 31, 2018 at 11:32 #

Only like the green coat…….No to the rest
That Erdem dress is hideous; Erdem should take part of the blame for designing something so awful

  11. EmmaWoodhouse January 31, 2018 at 07:03 #

LOVE the green coat, and I like the other two day looks as well, simple though they are.
I’m in the minority but I actually thought the Erdem dress was a rich color and a funky but cool choice for her.

  12. Alina January 31, 2018 at 06:13 #

    36 going on 66.

  13. vicky January 31, 2018 at 04:49 #

First row is OK. But the second? Wow, talk about aging! And I can’t help but thinking of Sound of Music-curtains for some reason when looking at that Erdem dress…

  14. Pheephee January 31, 2018 at 04:36 #

She always looks most free and spirited when doing the ‘sporty’ shots. I love that.
Of the fashion, I adore the third picture. That coat and the whole look is so perfectly, royal.

    • Maria F. January 31, 2018 at 09:22 #

i agree. She looks radiant in the first pic.

I find the green dress to somber, i miss some kind of accessory to liven the look up.

I do not mind the Erdem dress. It is a bit more fashion forward then her usual choices and for that i applaud her.

  15. JHH January 31, 2018 at 00:57 #

Three out of four ain’t bad. The Erdem dress is the only look that is not a win for the Duchess. Between it and her hairstyle and her expression in the picture, she looks about 60.

    • Draga January 31, 2018 at 10:54 #

Yes , I absolutely agree. I dont´ like the Erdem gown at all…

    • LeeAnn January 31, 2018 at 11:35 #

      Hey I’m 61 and look younger !

  16. Crystalline January 31, 2018 at 00:28 #

The Erdem dress does not complement her skin tone.

    • Mimi January 31, 2018 at 00:57 #

+1 It totally doesn’t. I love that she tried taking a risk though. Too bad it didn’t work out :/ I hope this is an indication that she’ll be branching out style wise.

      • JHH January 31, 2018 at 00:58 #

You are right. She should get some credit for going outside of her comfort zone.

  17. CreoleLady January 31, 2018 at 00:22 #

I like the green dress. Love the green coat.

    • Mimi January 31, 2018 at 00:57 #

    • Susie January 31, 2018 at 03:14 #
