Happy New Year

Happy New Year.

Welcome back. It’s so good to be back after the Christmas holidays, especially with two months of non-stop glamour ahead of us for awards season, starting this Sunday with the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. I’m intrigued to see the black dress code in action.

I’m going to have my eye on Margot Robbie (‘I, Tonya’), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), during awards season, especially Margot, considering you feel she has much to prove this awards season.

I’ll also be excited to see any newcomers emerge this year, as we saw so many raising stars make an instant impact on the red carpet in 2017.

Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace will be hosting the ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ 2018 Met Gala, which has the potential to be very interesting if the attendees embrace the theme and be creative.

May is always my favourite month because of Cannes Film Festival. Will anyone be able to out do last years Cannes Queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?

The other major event to look forward to in May is Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry.

I personally can’t wait for Lupita Nyong’o’s ‘Black Panther’ promo tour to start. I’m expecting plenty of colours and an array of hairstyles.

I’m also excited to see Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Elizabeth Olsen for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Dakota Fanning, Sarah Paulson and Katie Holmes for ‘Ocean’s 8’.

Dakota Johnson and Rita Ora for ‘Fifty Shades Freed’.

Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence and Sophie Turner for ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’.

Emily Blunt for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ and ‘A Quiet Place’ and Taraji P. Henson for ‘Proud Mary.’

Also, it has come to my attention that Lady Gaga will be promoting ‘A Star is Born’ this year. Will she go full gaga or Stefani Germanotta?

One of the brightest parts of an otherwise very challenging year was the return of our beloved RCFA. Happy New Year! Let’s see what this one has in store for us!

I’m very happy that awards season is upon us. The actresses and actors this year have different styles, so it should be fun.

I’m very excited for the Marvel movies this year; between ‘Black Panther’, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and ‘Infinity War’, we should be in for a treat.

As I have already mentioned several times before, I cannot wait for the ‘Ocean’s 8’ promo tour. Hopefully the ladies won’t disappoint.

I think we can expect nice things from the ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ cast. Reese Witherspoon can surprise, Mindy and Gugu are always a delight.

Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover could also give us some amazing looks for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’.

Considering the ones you’ve already mentioned, like Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, this should be an amazing year.

Happy New Year. Good to have you back.

I am curious about the Golden Globes. Will the black dress code make things boring or more interesting, because we can compare them and see what the stylist can come up with?

    • Catherine Kallon January 3, 2018 at 19:01 #

I think it will make things more interesting as you have to consider something really detail orientated for black to make a big impact.

I’m excited about it, i have to admit.

      • Maria F. January 4, 2018 at 08:29 #

It will definitely be a challenge for the stylists!

Welcome back Catherine! Hoping that you had a wonderful and relaxing break and a deep and sincere thank you for all the incredible work that you did on the site during 2017.

So excited to see Cate Blanchett on the red carpet for Ocean’s 8 and Where’d You Go, Bernadette in 2018. After a somewhat patchy 2017 by her super-high standards (redeemed by her stunning outing in Giorgio Armani at the Dubai International Film Festival in December), I am hoping that she serves some major looks on the promo tour for these films. Also looking forward to seeing Sarah Paulson’s Ocean’s 8 red carpet outings – she’s quite underrated in my opinion and has such a compelling and elegant red carpet presence that I am hoping will continue to shine this year.

This year I am moderating my expectations for the MET Gala – every year I quiver in anticipation at the magnificent looks that might grace the red carpet but find myself overwhelmingly disappointed at the lack of creativity (and, in some cases, sheer desperation) that engulfs the red carpet come the first Monday in May (Kendall, Gigi, Bella and co. come immediately to mind).

That said, here’s to 2018 hopefully bringing us many incredible and mind-blowing red carpet moments! Thanks again for all your hard work Catherine and a mighty thanks to the loyal RCFA contributors and commenters who make this website such a treat to visit.

    • Catherine Kallon January 3, 2018 at 13:02 #

Thank you Martin. I always look forward to your comments.

My only worry about the Ocean’s 8 promo tour is that not all the ladies will be in attendance. But I’m sill very excited nonetheless.

      • Martin January 4, 2018 at 03:01 #

Here’s hoping they are! And I have a sneaking suspicion that Rihanna will make sure that she is present at EVERY Ocean’s-related event 😉
