Thandie Newton In Vivienne Westwood Couture for The Green Carpet Challenge – ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Following the photocall, I was excited to see what Thandie Newton would be serving up at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ this evening (May 15).

The British actress wore a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture gown, printed with images of Thandie’s personal Star Wars figurine collection.

Each character was photographed by Christian Hogstedt and was layered over the iconic Vivienne Westwood ‘Absence of Roses’ print.

The print was created especially as an homage to Thandie’s first appearance in the motion-picture franchise.

If you were thinking, “this is just another standard Westwood dress,” hopefully the back story with encourage you to look again at this gown with fresh eyes.

Jennifer Connelly In Louis Vuitton – ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

If you thought Jennifer Connelly would break her stride and do something different, like a tulle ball gown, for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ this evening (May 15), you were in dreamland.

The actress was of course in Louis Vuitton, wearing a modified look from the Fall 2018 collection.

Some might regards this as ‘not-Cannes-worthy,’ but I love how it felt so right for the Star Wars premiere.

It has a futuristic vibe, and I have a sneaky feeling it was deliberately selected as it mildly resembles the iconic Stormtrooper.

So for that, I think it was a smart move. As a gown this wouldn’t have worked.

Sonam Kapoor In Vera Wang Bridal – ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Sonam Kapoor was back on the red carpet for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ this evening (May 15).

If you are expecting me to swoon over this Vera Wang Bridal 2019 gown, I feel like I already did…three days ago…when Sofia Boutella wore a similar dual-colour look from the same collection.

They are by no means the same dress, but the sentiment is the same.

But familiarity isn’t the biggest problem here, it’s the colour.

The nude hue is pretty yet feels so bland at the same time. Had the yellow been the more prominent colour of this story, I would be left breathless.

Hopefully Sonam will return to this and this kinda form for Cannes 2019.

Blackkklansman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere Red Carpet Roundup

There was no shortage of high octane fashion at the premiere of ‘Blackkklansman’ at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on Monday evening (May 14). Celebrities joined Damaris LewisLaura Harrier and Naomi Campbell.

Natasha Poly: The pastel purple hue brought an ethereal quality to the unabashed sexiness of her Atelier Versace Spring 2018 dress. It had every sensual element and came to life when in motion. I’m of two minds about removing the front skirt panel as it often seems like it’s in the way.

Winnie Harlow: The vivid green hue of her Ralph & Russo Spring 2018 Haute Couture outfit has such a bewitching quality and looks wonderful with her complexion. Alas, the material is not holding up very well for a couture look. It’s rather wilted.

Damaris Lewis In Off-White – ‘Blackkklansman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Damaris Lewis cut a fashion-forward figure at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Blackkklansman’ on Monday evening (May 14), joining Charlotte Le Bon, Ava DuVernay and Kristen Stewart.

While her co-star Laura Harrier went for refined simplicity, she opted for on-trend separates with an Off-White Spring 2018 ensemble finished with Off-White x Jimmy Choo Claire pumps.

Tuxedo dressing features at the festival, but it’s doubtful anyone expected it mashed up with cycling shorts and ruched TPU shoes. It was most definitely a surprise and this was the perfect opportunity to showcase her fashion credentials.

Love it or hate it, I’m sure everyone will be eager to see what she will wear next after this head-turning look.

Charlotte Le Bon In Christian Dior Haute Couture – ‘Blackkklansman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Charlotte Le Bon was one of the attendees at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Blackkklansman’ tonight (May 14). She joined Sonam Kapoor, Naomi Campbell and Jane Fonda.

I foresee this Christian Dior Fall 2017 Haute Couture dress not going down too well because of the overplayed sheer skirt.

There is an interesting three-dimensional quality with the different tones, but it’s the colours of the diaphanous fabric that I find to be the issue as opposed to the sheer fabrication itself.

They don’t really do anything for her nor do they create a striking finish with the other details. It’s a shame.

Thoughts?
