Nieves Alvarez strutted into 2013 with a special New Year’s Eve end-of-season edition of her Solo Moda show.
The Spanish supermodel and TV host has a body for fashion, and she played to the festive occasion in six highly formal and floor-grazing looks.
On Saturday, she debuted a flashy Blumarine Fall 2012 confection pavéd in iridescent studs; it was a modern mermaid moment.
Nieves has flaunted Andrew Gn several times before on her show, but her darkly romantic, three-quarter-sleeve dress from the designer had a moodier vibe.
While the draped Grecian trend has been rather exhausted, Nieves’ goddess look – a nude, long-sleeve Elie Saab Fall 2012 column gown – made her look statuesque.
Black sequins started Sunday’s show on a glittery note, with a plunging Vicky Martin Berrocal gown from the Fall 2012 collection.
A Vionnet gown, featuring a modified peplum waist, was second in line and provided an edgier tone.
The grand finale came courtesy of Dean and Dan Caten with their off-the shoulder DSquared² Resort 2013 frock in an unforgettable shade of cerulean-blue.
A shame that each pair of Nieves’ vertiginous Gianvito Rossi heels – she wore the label exclusively – was mostly covered by the long gowns. The shoes were no doubt as divine as her big pieces of Chanel wrist candy.
The most compelling look was the Blumarine; designer Anna Molinari was obsessed with neon, metallics and holograms for Fall 2012, and that moxie paid off. But the biggest problem with some of Nieves’ other ensembles was that they didn’t feel so fresh; perhaps she should have pushed the envelope a bit more.

she spoils us, amazing, im floored!
Agree, the Bluemarine is mighty fine. But my fave is the black magic Berrocal — love the pose and the styling with the slicked back hair and dangling sparklers. Modern flamenco. I can only dream about what the Shoe Goddess of 2012 could have been wearing on her feet.
Blumarine wins! The freshest look of them all. She is stunning in all.
damn! she killed it! the dresses are gorgeous

all I can say……
WOW!
The Elie Saab is my favourite.
+1
It is more simple than the rest but I love it.
Elie Saab is also my fave, followed by Blumarine.
Like all dresses.
The Elie Saab gown screams Angelina Jolie… Have we seen her in this particular dress?
She looks gorgeous. My favorite is the black sequined gown by Vicky Martin Berrocal.
That Blumarine dress is divine!
The Blumarine was definitely the best followed by Elie Saab. Saturday was definitely the best day, totally amazing! I love this woman.
The Dsquared, bluemarine and Andrew Gn are knock-outs.
All of these looks are fantastically beautiful, but the Dsquared and the Blumarine (previously worn by Katy Perry) are BDOTW-worthy!
These are all lovely, but I like the Vionnet best. More daring and very elegant.
I like Elie Saab and Vionnet dresses, but the Blumarine is the clear winner even before seeing the last three models.
Surprised to see Nieves with a Vicky Martin Berrocal, those dresses fit better on women with more curves. Actually, that gown was presented as a flamenca dress.
My favourites are the Elie Saab and the Vicky Martin Berrocal looks.
That Blumarine gown is TDF!!
The Blumarine one is stunning!
I’m not honestly very blown away. I much prefer ehr shorter looks, I thhink that they are fresher, mroe daring and better styled.
Also, the Blumarine dress works on her, but IMHO when Katy Perry wore it it looked super cheap and flammable. http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2012/05/21/katy-perry-in-blumarine-2012-billboard-music-awards/
I’m all about the Vionnet look!
What is going on? Elie Saab turned out a boring gown, and Dsquared – a label I remember mostly for turning out hideous things in denim – makes a gown I adore. Up is down.
Elie Saab is the most elegant of the bunch!
Yes we do have a distinct winner here. ELIE SAAB is the ONE fantastic gown! No surprise here, the man is a genius.
