Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge In Stella McCartney – ‘Road to 2012: Aiming High’ Exhibition Opening

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, opened the ‘Road to 2012: Aiming High’ exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery in London this morning.

She opted for a vibrant blue Stella McCartney crepe dress.

This choice was quite apt considering Stella McCartney designed the Olympic kit for Team GB.

Kate’s Pre-Fall 2012 dress was shockingly not paired with her favourite LK Bennett heels; instead she wore black satin Prada pumps.

The finishing touch to her elegant shift dress was an Olympic-themed necklace.

You can buy Kate’s Stella McCartney dress from Selfridges and Neiman Marcus.

This is quite possibly the most boring outfit that Catherine has ever worn in public. There is nothing to hold your attention at all – no interesting detail or cut or unique accessorisation to arouse anything apart from a prolonged yawn. Beyond banal.

For once I actually like the Stella dress (gorgeous colour), but the styling I really don’t like. The shoes are terrible: I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the nude pumps would have worked better here, as the black satin really clashes with the vibrant colour of the dress.

I’m glad she wore a vibrant colour, but the shoes are awful!

The shoes in other photos looked more like suede to me – and they appeared to be sort of beat up. Also that necklace is apparently by Cartier and cost 49,000 pounds! Seriously????

I don’t like the exposed darts at the bustline. I know it’s supposed to be a “design feature”, but to my eye it just isn’t attractive.

I do like the color of the dress, but seriously – how many blue dresses does this woman need????? She is laughable as a supposed ‘fashion icon’!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

Did her necklace really cost that much?! I swear, I saw a one just like it at Walmart for $20.

She ages herself with her fashion style. She needs to dress her age, but like a 50 year old.

Hey I’m 55 and trust me I dress far better

I HATE those shoes! The dress however looks great, especially the colour. The necklace was also a good choice.

if she had worn pumps in the same color as her dress i would have died a little. but alas…

So boring as usual i really do not rate her as a fashion icon like the press are trying to make out she is safe conservative and that’s fine just wish people would stop making such a big deal out of her fashion choices

    • Leeann July 19, 2012 at 20:26 #

      Couldn’t agree more

  11. Colleen K July 19, 2012 at 22:26 #

    Her necklace is Cartier.

She is not a celebrity, Catherine visited the gallery as a patron, she was not supposed to upstage sportsmen and sportswomen by her clothes. The purpose of her presence was not to showing off and her outfit is appropriate to the duties she had there. She looks really pretty, but I don’t like Stella’s outfits, they all look like they need a finish touch.
