The only person I was nervous about seeing on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars tonight was Meryl Streep.
That fear disappeared when I saw her arrive wearing this stunning Lanvin gown.
I don’t ever recall a jaw-dropping moment from Meryl, so what a great occasion in which to make it happen.
Her custom made gold lamé draped Lanvin gown was accessorized with a Lanvin woven gold and strass chain link belt, a Lanvin mother-of-pearl minaudiere and Salvatore Ferragamo gold lizard sandals.
Do you agree that this is the best she has ever looked?
Or can you think of a better moment?

Im gonna go ahead and call this the jaw dropping moment of the night. She looks beautiful.
She looks stunning but the neckline is bothering me a little. It’s so wide.
agree, the fit seems a bit off. perhaps it is intentional, but looks like it on the verge of slipping off her shoulder and a bit too big. love the earrings and overall look, very good for Meryl.
I think she is more beatufil and chic in Bafta’s
Her Balenciaga look at SAG Awards back in 2010 is my favourite but I like this look. She looks radiant
I agree with you this is her best!
+1
After a certain age clothes with a bit of structure tend to be more flattering. Not loving this dress but her hair, makeup and earrings are phenomenal.
Flawless! God, I love this woman.
Beautiful
like it, although it does have a 80s vibe to it.
The best color Meryl has ever worn! But the shape … I don’t know. It’s a borderline robe.
I think this is one of THE best red carpet looks from her. EVER. and she does nail it. looks good.
The way that the neckline is sliding makes it look like a bathrobe–that’s a lot of skin showing, and I don’t think it’s working–but I do love the gold lame and the draped skirt. I preferred her look at the 2010 Golden Globes.
Oh my god my jaw dropped. Meryl looks stunning !! The texture of the dress is just so beautiful. She is my golden girl tonight and boy she is going to win big too
She looks fabulous!
Gorgeous!
i think only her “Devil wears Prada” looks are better than this, she looks like the female version of the Oscar statue… Love it!!!
Meryl desperately needs a necklace!
She looks amazing. Lit up!
I agree, this is the best she has ever looked. Stunning! Love this color on her.
She sure wants to match her dress to the Oscar, hehehe.
Stunning. Love it head to toe, even if is a bit matchy matchy.
Love Meryl’s hair, make up and accessories. The dress does nothing for me. It looks like it’s too big for her.
She is glowing! Absolutely beautiful, definitely the best I have ever seen her. I’m so glad she looks this way on this occasion!
2010 SAG Awards in Balenciaga. that’s the only moment I can remember but she’s even more stunning now.
I adore her! I lover hte colour, and I really hope that she wins (sorry, viola), it reminds me of Sandra Bullock who almost matched her Oscar.
I still prefered the Chris March 2(or 3?) years ago, and in terms of being wowed by her, don’t forget the Balenciaga the same year. She was insanely shocking then.
*Shocking in a good way.
I was thinking the exact same thing about Chris March’s gown and Sandra Bullock!!This gown is actually quite similar to Chris March’s and on both occasion she looks amazing! But I do favour the white- so classy and elegant.
I think you can guess the winner by the amount of sequins they adorn on the night
I’m so happy she won, definitely deserve it!!
Love love love the color, the boobs area could be better fitted, but overall = flawless
White Chris March is the only one that comes close. i actually prefer that one- this one is a little too low in the front for my taste.
I agree this is her best!
She’s literally GLOWING…. Love this, a look to date!!!
As a friend of mine just said: Meryl, you’re supposed to win the Óscar, not interpret it!
She still looks amazing though
I’m not convinced….I thought Meryl looked her best in Vivienne Westwood at the BAFTAS
Agreed, but this is a befitting dress for a “golden girl” winner : love the earrings.
Girlfriend knows she’s gonna win, that’s why she goes full force fabulous. Why do you think she has spent so many campaign for this movie over that last year? The Vogue cover, the new dressing-up, etc.- it’s has Harvey Weinstein’s hands all over it. And when Weinstein pushes, the Oscar won’t say “no”.
Yeah, so true.
Knew it! She won. Her role may not be the best compare to her performance, but at least she’s the strongest contender this year. I’m so happy for her.
Jeremy, while I am thrilled for Meryl’s win, I am equally devastated that the Academy failed to honor Viola Davis and rewrite their own history. Davis may never get another leading role in a HIT film again, and it’s a damn shame. I love Meryl but The Iron Lady was FAR from her greatest work. The film was a mess, she veered into caricature, and so many other strong strong strong contenders were left in the dust this year (i.e. Tilda Swinton, Charlize Theron, Kirsten Dunst). Meryl is a national treasure and we all know this will not be her last Oscar. Sadly, we cannot say the same for Davis, who put it best herself- she’s no Halle Berry, and even Halle Berry is having a hard time getting good roles.
You are correct. She won!
In this case only, I find the slouchy bathrobe like top rather alluring, it gives Meryl a sexy pretty vibe, love the color on her as well so no complaints from me…..
i agree! i think she looks off the charts sexi in this outfit! what a beautiful woman she is! i wasnt keen on the dress at first but the more i look at it, the more i love her in it
This dress is really awful Meryl Sorry. It’s too big and glitzy and shapeless and cheezy looking for an elegant woman like you to wear out in public. Sorry. Meryl I love you.
I agree. I am not sold on this look either. I’ve seen her look better. Can’t believe all the love for this one.
she certainly looks stunning
i want those earrings!
Does anyone think she should lose the sleeves for once. Doesn’t have to be Oscar/Her night… just at least once on a big event on the red carpet, wear something without the sleeves! PLEASE!
women of a certain age prefer sleeves and generally since we lose muscle tone as we age, the sleeves are more flattering.
Really love the colour and that she’s not afraid of showing some skin.
But, the shape and those puffy draped arms (which she seem to favour a lot) never works on her, it makes her look bigger.
WOW~~~
From the iron lady she turned out to be the gold lady ! Love the way she looked !
I love this look so much but her best was at the 2010 Academy Awards in Chris March !
Divine, this woman can do no wrong in my book
I love it
It looks like the dining room drapes. Move over Ms. O’Hara.
During the ceremony, they showed scenes from the last time she had won the oscar, some years ago and she was wearing a gold dress too. I don’t know if she chose it because she was superstitious but I knew that she would win then. She looked great. I always like her vibe on the red carpet.
She knew was going to win and dressed herself like an Oscar
I like Meryl Streep so much. She knows her figure very well, so she never gets it wrong. I like yesterday’s dress, though my favorite MS look was the one on 2010, stunning…and so juvenile!
By the moment you saw Meryl on the red carpet you knew she would be the winner of the night!
Too much shine for me… gold dress, gold earrings, gold shoes, gold clutch… The dress itself is beautiful, quite sexy with a wonderful detail around the waist. Perfect. But to pair it with all the accesories in the same color does not work for me, sorry…
Golden Oscar eheh
love Meryl and while this gold Lanvin is beautiful on her the fit seems a little big. Love the belt and her earrings! My favorite look on her is the Westwood, but that look was definitely out of Meryl’s general comfort zone. This Lanvin is definitely more her ‘style’ and she looks fabulous.
She looks like an old lady on the red carpet. NEXT!
i absolutely adore Meryl!!! Very happy she won!
But i didn’t really like the look. I’d say BAFTA look was a 100% success!
This is a very “Meryl” look – the sleeves and the necklines are very familiar. I still like it though – and I really want to congratulate her on her win!! I was really excited for her.
Glorious !
Outstanding!! Definitely a jaw dropping moment, she looks fabulous!! love her!!
I can’t think of a better moment. This trully is the best she’s ever looked!
I agree that she’s a beautiful woman, and I’m glad for her that many loved her look, but I’m actually surprised. I think the gown is ill-fitting, too voluminous for her figure, and scary-foily-metallic.
