Meryl Streep In Lanvin – 2012 Oscars

The only person I was nervous about seeing on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars tonight was Meryl Streep.

That fear disappeared when I saw her arrive wearing this stunning Lanvin gown.

I don’t ever recall a jaw-dropping moment from Meryl, so what a great occasion in which to make it happen.

Her custom made gold lamé draped Lanvin gown was accessorized with a Lanvin woven gold and strass chain link belt, a Lanvin mother-of-pearl minaudiere and Salvatore Ferragamo gold lizard sandals.

Do you agree that this is the best she has ever looked?

Or can you think of a better moment?

Im gonna go ahead and call this the jaw dropping moment of the night. She looks beautiful.

  2. Jones19 February 27, 2012 at 00:57 #

She looks stunning but the neckline is bothering me a little. It’s so wide.

    • Camille February 27, 2012 at 15:29 #

agree, the fit seems a bit off. perhaps it is intentional, but looks like it on the verge of slipping off her shoulder and a bit too big. love the earrings and overall look, very good for Meryl.

  3. Fulden Kumsal February 27, 2012 at 00:58 #

I think she is more beatufil and chic in Bafta’s

  4. Henrique February 27, 2012 at 00:58 #

Her Balenciaga look at SAG Awards back in 2010 is my favourite but I like this look. She looks radiant

  5. Tiger Nueng February 27, 2012 at 00:59 #

I agree with you this is her best!

    • Dani February 27, 2012 at 01:13 #

      +1

  6. CTgirl February 27, 2012 at 00:59 #

After a certain age clothes with a bit of structure tend to be more flattering. Not loving this dress but her hair, makeup and earrings are phenomenal.

  7. Lancel February 27, 2012 at 00:59 #

Flawless! God, I love this woman.

  8. Christine February 27, 2012 at 01:00 #

    Beautiful

  9. robbie February 27, 2012 at 01:00 #

like it, although it does have a 80s vibe to it.

  10. pipsqueak February 27, 2012 at 01:00 #

The best color Meryl has ever worn! But the shape … I don’t know. It’s a borderline robe.

  11. A. February 27, 2012 at 01:00 #

I think this is one of THE best red carpet looks from her. EVER. and she does nail it. looks good.

  12. EmmaWoodhouse February 27, 2012 at 01:00 #

The way that the neckline is sliding makes it look like a bathrobe–that’s a lot of skin showing, and I don’t think it’s working–but I do love the gold lame and the draped skirt. I preferred her look at the 2010 Golden Globes.

  13. mandy February 27, 2012 at 01:01 #

Oh my god my jaw dropped. Meryl looks stunning !! The texture of the dress is just so beautiful. She is my golden girl tonight and boy she is going to win big too

  14. rebecca o February 27, 2012 at 01:01 #

    She looks fabulous!

  15. Paulo February 27, 2012 at 01:04 #

    Gorgeous!

  16. Rodrigo February 27, 2012 at 01:04 #

i think only her “Devil wears Prada” looks are better than this, she looks like the female version of the Oscar statue… Love it!!!

  17. Laura Brice February 27, 2012 at 01:05 #

    Meryl desperately needs a necklace!

  18. Snowlion February 27, 2012 at 01:05 #

    She looks amazing. Lit up!

  19. Shaina February 27, 2012 at 01:06 #

I agree, this is the best she has ever looked. Stunning! Love this color on her.

  20. Raquel February 27, 2012 at 01:07 #

She sure wants to match her dress to the Oscar, hehehe.

Stunning. Love it head to toe, even if is a bit matchy matchy.

  21. Camellia February 27, 2012 at 01:08 #

Love Meryl’s hair, make up and accessories. The dress does nothing for me. It looks like it’s too big for her.

  22. karine February 27, 2012 at 01:09 #

She is glowing! Absolutely beautiful, definitely the best I have ever seen her. I’m so glad she looks this way on this occasion!

  23. Leni February 27, 2012 at 01:09 #

2010 SAG Awards in Balenciaga. that’s the only moment I can remember but she’s even more stunning now.

  24. Hannah February 27, 2012 at 01:17 #

I adore her! I lover hte colour, and I really hope that she wins (sorry, viola), it reminds me of Sandra Bullock who almost matched her Oscar.
I still prefered the Chris March 2(or 3?) years ago, and in terms of being wowed by her, don’t forget the Balenciaga the same year. She was insanely shocking then.

    • Hannah February 27, 2012 at 01:17 #

      *Shocking in a good way.

      • Debbie February 27, 2012 at 06:59 #

I was thinking the exact same thing about Chris March’s gown and Sandra Bullock!!This gown is actually quite similar to Chris March’s and on both occasion she looks amazing! But I do favour the white- so classy and elegant.

I think you can guess the winner by the amount of sequins they adorn on the night ;)

I’m so happy she won, definitely deserve it!!

  25. dave February 27, 2012 at 01:17 #

Love love love the color, the boobs area could be better fitted, but overall = flawless

  26. MissAmynae February 27, 2012 at 01:20 #

White Chris March is the only one that comes close. i actually prefer that one- this one is a little too low in the front for my taste.

  27. mm February 27, 2012 at 01:20 #

I agree this is her best!

  28. Hisadora February 27, 2012 at 01:33 #

She’s literally GLOWING…. Love this, a look to date!!!

  29. Moda February 27, 2012 at 01:41 #

As a friend of mine just said: Meryl, you’re supposed to win the Óscar, not interpret it!

    She still looks amazing though

  30. Kate February 27, 2012 at 02:20 #

I’m not convinced….I thought Meryl looked her best in Vivienne Westwood at the BAFTAS

    • Katharine February 27, 2012 at 05:43 #

Agreed, but this is a befitting dress for a “golden girl” winner : love the earrings.

  31. Jeremy February 27, 2012 at 02:47 #

Girlfriend knows she’s gonna win, that’s why she goes full force fabulous. Why do you think she has spent so many campaign for this movie over that last year? The Vogue cover, the new dressing-up, etc.- it’s has Harvey Weinstein’s hands all over it. And when Weinstein pushes, the Oscar won’t say “no”.

    • bm February 27, 2012 at 03:23 #

      Yeah, so true.

      • Jeremy February 27, 2012 at 04:56 #

Knew it! She won. Her role may not be the best compare to her performance, but at least she’s the strongest contender this year. I’m so happy for her.

        • Kennedy February 27, 2012 at 17:23 #

Jeremy, while I am thrilled for Meryl’s win, I am equally devastated that the Academy failed to honor Viola Davis and rewrite their own history. Davis may never get another leading role in a HIT film again, and it’s a damn shame. I love Meryl but The Iron Lady was FAR from her greatest work. The film was a mess, she veered into caricature, and so many other strong strong strong contenders were left in the dust this year (i.e. Tilda Swinton, Charlize Theron, Kirsten Dunst). Meryl is a national treasure and we all know this will not be her last Oscar. Sadly, we cannot say the same for Davis, who put it best herself- she’s no Halle Berry, and even Halle Berry is having a hard time getting good roles.

    • Christine February 27, 2012 at 05:10 #

      You are correct. She won!

  32. Mol February 27, 2012 at 03:07 #

In this case only, I find the slouchy bathrobe like top rather alluring, it gives Meryl a sexy pretty vibe, love the color on her as well so no complaints from me…..

    • jacqui February 27, 2012 at 21:44 #

i agree! i think she looks off the charts sexi in this outfit! what a beautiful woman she is! i wasnt keen on the dress at first but the more i look at it, the more i love her in it

  33. marlin mctavish February 27, 2012 at 04:04 #

This dress is really awful Meryl Sorry. It’s too big and glitzy and shapeless and cheezy looking for an elegant woman like you to wear out in public. Sorry. Meryl I love you.

    • dee February 27, 2012 at 18:27 #

I agree. I am not sold on this look either. I’ve seen her look better. Can’t believe all the love for this one.

  34. noo February 27, 2012 at 04:21 #

she certainly looks stunning :D i want those earrings!

  35. Saree February 27, 2012 at 05:00 #

Does anyone think she should lose the sleeves for once. Doesn’t have to be Oscar/Her night… just at least once on a big event on the red carpet, wear something without the sleeves! PLEASE!

    • Camille February 27, 2012 at 15:32 #

women of a certain age prefer sleeves and generally since we lose muscle tone as we age, the sleeves are more flattering.

  36. vicky February 27, 2012 at 06:08 #

Really love the colour and that she’s not afraid of showing some skin.
But, the shape and those puffy draped arms (which she seem to favour a lot) never works on her, it makes her look bigger.

  37. Ingrid February 27, 2012 at 07:25 #

    WOW~~~

  38. Andreea February 27, 2012 at 08:28 #

From the iron lady she turned out to be the gold lady ! Love the way she looked !

  39. Anja February 27, 2012 at 09:10 #

I love this look so much but her best was at the 2010 Academy Awards in Chris March !

  40. Omo February 27, 2012 at 10:16 #

Divine, this woman can do no wrong in my book :) I love it

  41. Lilly February 27, 2012 at 10:37 #

It looks like the dining room drapes. Move over Ms. O’Hara.

  42. Kyriaki-Cyprus February 27, 2012 at 10:59 #

During the ceremony, they showed scenes from the last time she had won the oscar, some years ago and she was wearing a gold dress too. I don’t know if she chose it because she was superstitious but I knew that she would win then. She looked great. I always like her vibe on the red carpet.

  43. Carmen February 27, 2012 at 11:48 #

She knew was going to win and dressed herself like an Oscar ;-)

  44. Luisa February 27, 2012 at 12:56 #

I like Meryl Streep so much. She knows her figure very well, so she never gets it wrong. I like yesterday’s dress, though my favorite MS look was the one on 2010, stunning…and so juvenile!

  45. SandTony February 27, 2012 at 14:19 #

By the moment you saw Meryl on the red carpet you knew she would be the winner of the night!

  46. Angela R. February 27, 2012 at 14:22 #

Too much shine for me… gold dress, gold earrings, gold shoes, gold clutch… The dress itself is beautiful, quite sexy with a wonderful detail around the waist. Perfect. But to pair it with all the accesories in the same color does not work for me, sorry…

    • SandTony February 27, 2012 at 15:17 #

      Golden Oscar eheh

  47. Camille February 27, 2012 at 15:35 #

love Meryl and while this gold Lanvin is beautiful on her the fit seems a little big. Love the belt and her earrings! My favorite look on her is the Westwood, but that look was definitely out of Meryl’s general comfort zone. This Lanvin is definitely more her ‘style’ and she looks fabulous.

  48. MsDivaMom February 27, 2012 at 16:43 #

She looks like an old lady on the red carpet. NEXT!

  49. nathalie19 February 27, 2012 at 23:30 #

i absolutely adore Meryl!!! Very happy she won!

But i didn’t really like the look. I’d say BAFTA look was a 100% success!

  50. Tina February 28, 2012 at 05:10 #

This is a very “Meryl” look – the sleeves and the necklines are very familiar. I still like it though – and I really want to congratulate her on her win!! I was really excited for her.

  51. Alina February 28, 2012 at 13:47 #

    Glorious !

  52. Jess2 February 29, 2012 at 02:19 #

Outstanding!! Definitely a jaw dropping moment, she looks fabulous!! love her!!

  53. Parvati February 29, 2012 at 23:10 #

I can’t think of a better moment. This trully is the best she’s ever looked!

  54. Sarah March 3, 2012 at 02:47 #

I agree that she’s a beautiful woman, and I’m glad for her that many loved her look, but I’m actually surprised. I think the gown is ill-fitting, too voluminous for her figure, and scary-foily-metallic.

  55. Eva August 16, 2014 at 03:08 #

Did you know the real story behind this dress was that Meryl was originally going to wear black, but her daughters told her to wear this one- and did you see her reaction when her name was announced? I know it looks like acting but it was completely genuine- she was eve crying backstage for a few minutes after because she couldn’t comprehend the whole thing
