‘Ink’ Premiere Menswear at the Venice Film Festival
Here’s a roundup of the men who graced the red carpet for the Ink premiere during the Venice Film Festival last night. While black tailoring dominated, there were enough individual details to keep the menswear interesting.
Best In Black
My best dressed man of the night was jury member Akinola Davies Jr., who wore a black double-breasted Celine suit, styled with Celine 65 sunglasses and white Celine ballet lace-up shoes.
The proportions are what immediately sold this to me. The broad shoulders and relaxed trousers give the all-black tailoring a modern shape, but those white ballet shoes are the detail that takes it somewhere unexpected. They completely change the attitude of the suit.
Worth The Layers?
After attending the Dior menswear show this summer, Jack O’Connell returned to the house for the red carpet, wearing a Dior Spring 2027 look styled with Cartier accessories.
This is such a suave look. The long grey coat, tuxedo jacket, white shirt and bow tie are beautifully put together, while the oversized fringed scarf makes the biggest impression.
But I did feel sorry for Jack after seeing a video of him being blotted by an assistant on the red carpet. A heavy wool coat and scarf layered over a tuxedo jacket was always going to be a lot in the summer temperatures in Venice. He looked fantastic, but this was definitely a case of suffering for fashion.

Keeping It Light
Damian Hardung had the right idea for the Venice heat, opting for a lightweight grey Armani suit.
The relaxed fabric already makes sense for the setting, but styling it with a low-cut vest instead of a shirt keeps things even lighter.
Scarf Statement
Owen Thiele also used a red-and-white printed scarf to move his black tailoring beyond the expected.
The deep neckline and flash of red give the look its personality, and unlike Jack O’Connell’s substantial layers, this feels far better suited to a warm evening in Venice. Pandora jewellery completed his look.

For a night that saw George receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, there was really only one designer I expected him to wear. His black Giorgio Armani tuxedo delivered exactly what the occasion called for.
