Maisie Williams Goes Gothic in Archive Gucci for ‘Practical Magic 2’

Ahead of tonight’s London premiere, Maisie Williams was spotted heading to BBC Radio Studios to begin promotion for her new film, Practical Magic 2, in which she stars alongside Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock and Joey King.

And we already have a major fashion moment from Maisie, who dipped into the archives for a Frida Giannini for Gucci Fall 2012 look.

When you think of Gucci, gothic dressing doesn’t immediately spring to mind, but whoever pulled this look for Maisie knew exactly what they were doing. The plum silk damask jacket, with its sculpted peplum and intricate floral pattern, was worn over a matching high-neck blouse finished with ruffles. Between the colour, texture and Victoriana influence, it feels completely suited to Maisie’s style sensibilities while also tapping into the witchy world of Practical Magic 2.

Maisie made the look her own by pairing the Gucci runway elements with a black skirt, while plum knee-high boots and matching sunglasses extended that deep aubergine palette. Even the turquoise jewellery works as an unexpected accent against all that plum.

There’s enough of the original 2012 look to make the archive pull instantly recognisable, without feeling like a runway recreation.

Maisie is always a good time on the red carpet, so starting the day in archive Gucci has certainly raised my expectations for what she’ll deliver at the premiere this evening.
